Arizona has a great offense.
Barnes did an admirable job considering the lack of reps.
NO SEASON-ENDING injuries.
Cam had a little setback on gameday making it so he could not play. An injury got worse. He was right on track to play.
Gameday decisions on who plays is not uncommon.
Tavion issues are in-house and he would not divulge anything new.
Bernard got dinged up in the USC game and had limited practice during the week. He wasn’t effective Saturday night.
Kyle does NOT like the targeting call. He likes the NFL rules on this. Football is a risky sport.
Don’t complain about the refs because it will all balance out in the end.
Glover is a guy that can run the ball 20+ times a game.
JJ had a good game outside the fumble.
Yassmin, Kendall, Mc Clain need to step it up if Kincaid cannot go.
De Laura does not do as much RPO as the last two QBs we have played against. But, he is a very elusive runner.
If a QB is sitting and not getting playing time – they often leave. Proud of what JJ has done with his change of position.
Sacks are a critical part of pass defense.
Arizona has a solid running game but is a pass-first team. They have a very good core of receivers.
Vake had a good game and you will see him more.
Nate Johnson has had almost no reps at QB, but they have confidence that he has a high ceiling.
Cam is much further ahead than he was last week at this time. So, he will get the reps in practice this week.
He was not trying to keep anything from FS1 announcers. The change of QB was a surprise to everyone. Announcers were not even in Pullman. They were in a studio in LA. (I hate that.)

Thanks for distilling all this!

RedUte14Participant
Why doesn’t Nate Johnson have reps at QB? I’m confused. Does this just mean first team reps? Or how do practices work during the season?
-
ProudUteParticipant
He has focused on being the scout team QB and just doesn’t get many reps with the starters. KW believes he has the talent to be a very good QB. I have heard that the first team D struggles to stop Johnson in practice.
-
2008 National ChampParticipant
Not sure why that would be surprising since the 1st team D struggles to stop mobile QB’s in games also

Thanks for these summaries.

AZUTEParticipant
Arizona O is good but their D is one of the worst in CFB 125th out of 131 schools
Utah at home 48 pts and 500 yards of offense vs the Wildcats easy
Final score 48-31
Arizona scores a few 4 qtr TDs against Utah’s 3rd stringers to make it look close.
-
Central Coast UteParticipant
Agreed. If Cam plays, Utah more than covers the spread.
-
ProudUteParticipant
I tend to agree except our offense is not at full strength. If Cam is ready (and can run) we should be fine. Running is a big part of what he does.

Thanks for the summary, it’s always nice.
I wish Whitt had said something like “Well, we tried to tell the sideline announcer as soon as we knew” because Fox didn’t send one. Glad he said something about the broadcast crew being in studio and not Pullman.
-
ProudUteParticipant
Someone said that the Fox announcers were upset that Cam wasn’t going to play. Whit said, “They were not as upset as me.” When he found out Cam could not play, they needed to do everything they could to get Barnes ready to play. The last thing they were worried about was notifying two guys who weren’t even at the game.

Arizona is always behind because of their defense so they tend to be super pass heavy their running backs are pretty good. But again statistically I just don’t buy them being a threat. Even with Kincaid resting it should be fine.
-
ProudUteParticipant
I watched their game with USC on Saturday. They kept that game competitive until the end. This will not be like some teams. We cannot get up by 17 and feel comfortable. They can score quickly. We need to keep our foot on the pedal.
-
EagleMountainUteParticipant
It wasn’t competitive until the end. Usc slammed the door was effectively up 3 scores. Zona mismanaged any chance at a comeback and banked on getting an onside kick.
Compare that to Utah who just went blow for blow with SC?
Don’t get me wrong Utah has to hold them back and Zona has the power to score.Utah defense is better than SC’s. I would say Oregon st and Utah have the two best p12 defenses after that who cares really.
It’s why it is such a laughable joke to me that people think Oregon, SC or fUCLA should be in the CFP. Trash defenses all around. Utah isn’t even close either to a CFP team.
-
ProudUteParticipant
The score going into the 4th quarter was 31-29. So it was close. Yes, USC scored two TDs to go up 45-29. UA didn’t give up and fought until the end. That is what I am saying, Arizona can score quickly and will not give up. They are much improved.
Yes, the PAC12 defenses are very bad this year.

Arizona game last year was one of the more frustrating games for me. I believe Utah was something like a 20+ point favorite last year and Arizona proceeded to go into the bag of tricks all game long because they had nothing to lose. They basically just hung around all game and it was annoying.
-
ProudUteParticipant
Yep, it was the most annoying game last season.
-
UtephoriaParticipant
Another annoyance was Arizona’s blocked punt at the three yard line for a touchdown in the fourth quarter, which helped make the game closer than it should have been.
-
EagleMountainUteParticipant
Ugghh all the bad came flooding back for that game.

D TParticipant
I don’t sweat U of A….They went to Berkeley recently & got obliterated….We get them at home, which furthers my confidence in beating them handily.
-
RedbloodParticipant
Certain teams match up well with others. Their offense is the kind we struggle with. This will be a shoot out and we better be ready to play.
-
D TParticipant
We have an elite secondary & an improving front 7….I don’t believe it’ll be close in the end….We’ll cover in this game.
-
EagleMountainUteParticipant
RJ Hubert sits the first half remember that. He makes up for Bishop’s lack of coverage skills.

As of now weather is looking to play apart

I’ve been supremely confident that we would get a win in every game this year except UCLA. But I am absolutely not confident in this one. The way U of Pay plays is not a good matchup for us.
