According to a source, tight end Landon Morris has entered the transfer portal @247SportsPortal

Lyons going on a 2-year mission though in the spring. My guess is Kuithe returns.

That he’s not likely to see much PT next year and is trying his luck elsewhere. Not sure it’s a guarantee of Utah getting Walker Lyons (Lyons is a mission kid, so he wouldn’t be with the squad next season anyway).
Go Utes…Beat the Nittany Lions!

Not sure it means anything other than Kuithe is considering coming back (which we already knew)
Transfer portal is only open from 5 Dec to 18 January. It’s a giant game of musical chairs and you want to find a seat before time runs out. If Kuithe isn’t making a decision until 4 January or so, most teams will have already finished their portal shopping by then. If you’re Morris you have to make a decision now to make sure you find a home.

Definitely a lot of smoke around Kuithe returning for sure now. Which probably means Rising as well.

Even if Kuithe is returning, this does not seem like a very good move for him. At least four TEs have been used throughout this year. Yes, Kuithe was the primary guy until injured, and then Kinkaid became the primary guy. But Yassmin, Kendall, and others, while not featured, were used extensively. Unless Morris thinks he is no better than 4th string, he would seem to be well positioned to get some great playing time next year (assuming Kinkaid, Yassmin, and Kendall are gone).

it could be that the Aussie is returning… and it could be that he sees himself behind Munir McClain?

If this is true, it would make more sense. He would then be 4th string. There is also the potential Holker transfer, which adds another TE.
Lyons is a non-factor for at least two years.

Maybe he just isn’t good enough to get playing time here? We had plenty of tight end injuries, if he was good enough to matter he would have made an impact this year. If he’s transferring that means he likely wasn’t getting playing time in the RB with our two starting tight ends out… Which means he just isn’t that good.

At the moment. Kuithe staying or not, Utes need at least 1-2 experienced TEs. If Lyons signs with Utah he’s a three year project going on a mission then the one year to get back in shape. Yasmin, if he stays, is not a premier TE in Ludwigs offense, he’s a nice story with a couple highlight catch and runs, but four catches in the last four games is not going to get it done in Ludwig’s current offense. Maybe Jacobson or one of the other Freshman step up.
Kendall graduating is also a big loss. He did not get nearly enough credit for his contribution on the line. Munir, IIRC has not seen first offense time since the two plays he was in during the first USC game. Not sure Pututau got much action either. Would not be surprised to see both these guys hit the portal as well given the lack of playing time. I’m sure coach FW is hitting the portal hard. The portal works in mysterious ways :). This can all change very fast.

Could be a lot of reasons but if 247 is correct, he used his one free transfer last year coming to Utah. So unless he has qualified for grad status, he will need to sit out wherever he goes. Has to be a pretty good reason for him to transfer if he is willing to sit for a year.
He’s an east coast kid so it could be geographical, maybe he wasn’t able to find a good fit with the local culture, lack of playing time and low prospect of future snaps.,, No matter what his reason, it just shows why I root for the name on the front of the jersey instead of the back.
