I admit that after the debacle at Oregon State, I had little hope for our injure-riddled team. I did not see how we could compete with the elite PAC12 teams. I saw some positive things against Cal, but last night really gave me hope.
We still will be missing 2 of our top 3 QBs, 3 of our top 5 running backs, our top two tight ends, a starting wide receiver, and who knows what offensive linemen can play next week.
We cannot fix the injuries, they are what they are. But, we found a new potent weapon in Vaki. Wow, he is an amazing athlete. Also, Barnes is starting to come into his own. He made a huge mistake on the pick-6, but took the team downfield like he was John Elway for a big win.
Our defense took a big hit with Barton going down for the season, but our D remains the best in the conference.
Two weeks ago, I thought there was little to no chance that we could compete with Oregon and UW. UW showed last night that they are vulnerable. Oregon is very good, but after what I saw last night – I believe we can beat the Ducks next week. It won’t be easy with that amazing Oregon offense. But, if our offense continues to be creative, we could win.
Go Utes!!!
