Last years game could be chalked up to really 3 things imo
1) AR-15 played incredible to the point where I felt like that game alone got him into a round 1-2 slot. I’m sick of everyone acting like Mertz is better and propping him up to be Tom Brady. I get that a lot Utah fans are propping up Barnes but contrary to most people I don’t think qb is the end all be all for Utah.
2) Utah s**tting the bed on the goal line was a nightmare. Tavion slipping and correct me if I’m wrong but I remember him fumbling on the half yard line. I don’t think JJ or Bernard THIS YEAR would be doing that type of stuff. Left 7 whole points on the board
3) why go for 2? Kick the extra point and without my complaint of the goal line mishap we’re down 2 instead of 3. The interception wouldn’t have happened because it wouldn’t have been needed. I don’t think our kicker missed anything that day with his 1 FG and XP so I feel comfortable he hits it and we win by a point
I hope that Florida is underestimating altitude but idk if it really makes a difference. Teams come from sea level every now and then and beat teams in the mountains quite a bit. Same could be said about humidity last year too though. Really don’t like seeing everyone replaying broughtons puke moment. He did that the year before against damn Weber. I’m rambling now. 1 more day. No idea what happens, I think I picked Florida to win just because I don’t want to be completely disappointed if we lose.
GO UTES!!

I don’t disagree with your points, but I think I could also argue that we win that game if we make just a few more tackles than we did

Yeah, that should be added. Inexperienced D made a TON of mistakes

I agree. I’ve rewatched this have a few times and without naming names, a couple of guys that turned out to have pretty solid years for us were really bad, like awful bad. I think you just have to take that as something that can happen in openers. Going for 2 was also a baffling decision.

The tackling was just plain awful in that game. Even Bishop called it out and he was one of the guys that missed some crucial tackles! Barton, Reed, Bishop all whiffed a few times in that game. I expect to see much better tackling tomorrow night!

Richardson played great. The next week he got a nagging injury that affected him the remainder of the season.
That being said, our defense was terrible that night by their own admission. Cam did not have a great night either and yes we blew red zone opportunities.
I have not heard one person say that Mertz is better than Richardson. However, I have heard that he is better than his Wisconsin stats suggest. But, the fact remains, he was Florida’s fourth choice.

Utah outplayed the Gators for the most part and potentially could have left the Swamp victorious, but Florida made the key plays on both sides of the ball which was the difference.

Having experience with both humid hot, and Utah elevation, I can say that adjusting to the humid heat is 10 times worse than adjusting to running at high altitudes.
The altitude will give us a very small advantage.

Hot & humid is a serious cooling problem. Elevation is an oxygen problem.

That’s what made last year’s loss so frustrating. Even with Richardson playing Superman, the game was there for the taking. Can you believe that Utah had three drives that went inside the Florida 10-yard line and that got zero points? That’s the loss right there. Just get three points and it’s an easy win.

that loss would have been far less frustrating if we had played our best and lost anyway.
