first off, heck of a win! defense is elite and offense made some amazing plays when it mattered. wilson and bernard’s explosive runs had me pumped up! some issues with execution late make this win a little less sweet, but a win is a win.
now, how injured does rising have to be to sit out arguably the biggest game of the season? on the road, top 15 matchup, trying to start conference play the right way. (shout out to wilson for getting it done), but what does risings future look like moving forward?
i’m honestly sick of stressing over his status every week. i get that if he’s injured, it’s his choice whether he plays or not. but didn’t he come back this season to PLAY? may seem dramatic but if he isn’t good to go by the arizona game, i’m giving the wheel to wilson. i just wanna watch football, and not be so worried about the health of one player.

That’s probably what many coaches would do, but that’s not what KW will do. My guess is that Rising will be the starter as soon as he can play. My only caveat to that is if Rising is out for, say the next two or three games, and Wilson leads the Utes to victories and looks competent doing so. At that point, I believe, you’ve kind of reached the point of diminishing returns with a guy that you know will never play another down of Utah football after this year. Not the kind of ending anyone envisioned for Rising after last season but sometimes life deals you tough breaks.
-
22Ute22Participant
Nah, as disappointed as I am with Cam, he is still significantly better than IW at this point. Rising would have had that game 31-3 in Stillwater, but IW blew many opportunities to put points on the board.

ORuteParticipant
It’s Wilson’s job to lose now. You go on the road with limited prep and get the W, you are the new QB1. enough drama, time to give him 1st team reps, the future is now, get him the experience. much respect to cam, alway will be a ute legend but if he couldn’t play a down today he won’t be 100% next week, never will be. time to cut losses and develope Wilson
-
RedRocksParticipant
🤦♂️ What kind of take is this?
Rising is obviously injured, but he is one of the best quarterbacks to have played at Utah. Now you want to bench him for a freshman? Isaac has looked good at times, but he has definitely looked like a freshman at other times.
Don’t get me wrong, I too am tired of this will he / won’t he play charade. However, Rising is still a great player (when he plays).
Thankfully the coaches know better and will play Rising when he is ready to go. If it were later in the season and Cam still wasn’t playing, then maybe you think about it.
-
cj13Participant
People are just emotional about Rising being out again last minute. Anyone with a brain would not bench Rising for Wilson. It’s not like Rising doesn’t want to play, he was obviously injured! I get the “diDN’t yOu COme bAcK to PLaY?!” thought process but he obviously can’t play if he is injured. Everyone chill out. Rising can’t magically heal his finger like how he couldn’t magically heal his knee

krindorParticipant
Reality is that Wilson is very good and will be stellar in time. But he also threw some ill-advised picks and got bogged down a bit in the red zone.
If Rising is fully healthy (and that’s admittedly a big if), his veteran experience makes the team better. If not, then obviously we’re lucky to have Wilson.
Don’t need to denigrate one to praise the other.
-
AlohaUteParticipant
LOL, no it’s not. That’s a terrible take. Wilson is no where near as good as Rising at this point. You play Rising 10/10 if he can play.
-
DallasParticipant
Wilson and Bowman had very similar stats. The difference in this game was the run game. If Rising had played and put up Wilson’s stats, we might feel worried especially with all the points left in the field. The freshman gets the benefit of the doubt because of the perceived upside.

Was watching the TV before the game started where they were showing Rising throwing. Dude was grimacing every time he threw the ball. Also looked like he was having trouble gripping it. I’m thinking it’s more than just a cut.
-
dwainegfParticipant
If you lacerate your skin by smashing it into something that is not overly sharp, you bruise the living crap out of everything surrounding the tear in the skin. Anyone who has had that happen knows that it takes time to heal. A digit on a throwing hand likely takes a bit more time than, let’s say a fore arm. We may not see Rising until after the bye week. I hope that isn’t true, because I believe the Utes are much better with Rising at QB. I also believe we will be saying the same thing about Wilson in the future. Wilson seems to have a bit of that “IT” factor that makes talented players, great players. We are lucky to have him.

RoboUteParticipant
Rising is a waste of NIL money. 18 months of bulls**t is more than enough
-
UteanoogaParticipant
Rising leaves everything on the field. So the notion that he is pretending to be hurt is not credible.
If a QB can’t throw the ball well then he is not going to be effective. No need to make it more complicated than that.
As for stressing over whether Rising will play- that accomplishes nothing. If Rising can go- great. If he can’t- Wilson is gaining valuable experience.
Enjoy the win!
-
The Miami UteParticipant
I’m absolutely certain that’s the way the staff sees it and how they will deal with the situation
-
-
PNW UteParticipant
This wasn’t a situation like last year. It wasn’t the team expecting him to play but a doctor held him out. He was having trouble gripping the ball, and wasn’t getting enough velocity on his throws during pregame warmups. Wilson gave the team the better chance to win today. Period.
-
Larry BParticipant
Can we actually stop talking about him? I’m so sick of the drama. Let’s all just agree that he’ll be able to play when he walks out on the field. I don’t care if God himself has inside information that he’s playing. The drama has almost ruined Utah football for me.
-
UtesbyfiveParticipant
I just tune it all out. This finger thing is kind of a freak injury, but anyone who’s had a bad laceration on their fingers, with many stitches knows that it just gets stiff and sore and stays that way for some time. A QB’s throwing hand is really his main weapon, and if he can’t grip and throw, he can’t play effectively. He’ll play when he can play. Isaac is doing great. I think he can beat Arizona next week if necessary. I was worried about OSU, and we survived, and now I’ve gained a lot of confidence in what this team can do the rest of the way.
-
Tony (admin)Keymaster
Yeah I gashed up the knuckles on both my hands mountain biking about 3 months ago and they’re still stiff and painful! But I’m no spring chicken. Well, I guess Rising isn’t either LOL.
-
-
DallasParticipant
Absolutely second the stupid drama putting such a bitter taste around two fun seasons. What Whitt and Lud put together last year was truly amazing all injuries considered especially if our starting QB isn’t getting all necessary reps.
-
-
ORuteParticipant
the questions not if cams hurt, he clearly is – more than most thought. it’s about weather he ever will be close enough to play effectively and if he were back at 75% would it be at the sacrifice of developing the future qb.
-
RedRocksParticipant
You don’t play to ‘develop’. You play to win.
You ‘develop’ in practice, in the weight room, and in film study.
If you are destroying the other team, then you put in your backups to ‘develop’.If a starter is injured, you play the backup (who gets a chance to ‘develop’).
Once the starter is healed, if they give you the best chance to win, you play them.-
ORuteParticipant
I agree we play to win, we’ve won 2 road games in tough environs with Wilson, he’s healthy, seems like best option to win right imo. its all speculation on how bad the injury is
-
-
-
EagleMountainUteParticipant
Coaches gave Wilson the start 20 minutes before kick off. Maybe to not amp up the stress. But I don’t know it seemed to work. Wilson looked lost for most of the first half though. Ending the game was also stressing to.
Thank you Bernard. Bailed out Utah for sure.
-
HPrete22Participant
when rising and wilson are both healthy, im taking rising 9 times out of 10. he is one of the best qbs utah has ever had, and i love watching him.
i just wish he could play 😂. with rising we beat okst by 30 imo. however, this is some very valuable experience that our qb of the future is getting
-
2008 National ChampParticipant
with Rising today Utah wins by 30? really, a guy who can’t grip the ball was going to blow out OSU?
This boards relationship with Rising is reaching Battered Wife Syndrome levels.
-
DallasParticipant
I think he means a Rising at 100%. And I agree.
-
RoboUteParticipant
“I think he means a Rising at 100%”
So something that never happens?
-
-
HPrete22Participant
yes, i meant we win if cam is 100%. we were lucky to have bernard in the game today, but with cam that game isn’t even close.
-
LetItRideParticipant
Tired of ur crap and the rest of the boards patience.
Rising is our Aplha and Whit has stated that. Period.
-
NotweirdParticipant
Oh god yes You’re so right he’s our alpha

Brock Huard said it best, pregame he observed Cam throwing. Said Cam should have been throwing fastballs, but instead was throwing change-ups.
Throwing hand injury affects his velocity and accuracy. You wait until that is healed.
Right call to go with Isaac. We’re playing with house money right now. Let’s get Cam, Karene and Connor back and we’ll be sitting pretty.
-
Rocket UteParticipant
Hmmm. I think some of you will be surprised when Rising comes back (whenever that is) he will be FAR and AWAY the better QB for us. In fact, coaches hope not to play IW anymore so he can preserve his redshirt season by only playing in 3 games this year.
-
The Miami UteParticipant
Wilson has played in every game this year. You can pretty much forget about him redshirting.
-
-
jshame17Participant
So, are we back to this again?
Rising can’t play because he’s hurt, but the backup doesn’t know he’s starting until
Kickofff? Why the hell is Rising taking any practice snaps during the week if he can’t go?
Stop handcuffing the team and develop the QB depth already….
-
LetItRideParticipant
Amen.
Laughing at the small fan base that thinks wilson is ready to take over.
They are limiting his playobook! He is not ready for big time. Cam has proved his worth. Can’t believe I am actually defending our two time pac 12 champ. Crazy. So many fake trolls on this board.
-
NotweirdParticipant
It’s gross to see these so called fans forget that we put on the red and white to support cam
-
-
-
Red RhinoParticipant
Wilson will end up being a better quarterback for Utah than Rising, but right now Rising is the right choice. If he were in this game, we wouldn’t have left points on the board. I’m excited for Wilson and the future!
-
SteelUteParticipant
You have to think that Rising is also taking into account what is best for the team. It may be a hard decision to make some weeks. Would he be better than IW? Most weeks yes but Could he go today? Also, long term risk- but yes, we’ve hit the point where we just assume Isaac is playing and gasp when Cam comes out.
-
Rocket UteParticipant
Miami:
My understanding is under the new rules, players can play in a maximum of 4 games and still redshirt if they don’t play in 5 games. I’m not say this will happen but if the coaches wanted to, they could sit IW for the rest of the season and IW could redshirt and save a season.
