In football load management is obligate. The games are much more rough but they only play a fraction of the number of games in total. If you’re a college coach letting some player selfishly dictate their workload you should be shown the door. There aren’t any Lebrons in college. You can’t “build a franchise” around players in college so they simply don’t have the same bargaining power. If someone gives up halfway through the season then they can be released and let the optics and word of mouth cost them millions, or possibly a career at all.
