With load management in focus in the NBA and at least being a primary factor in the ratings being down this year and probably for the last several years as stars put their focus on the important games and limiting the physical impact on their body throughout the course of the season how much parallel do you see with College football? It seems to be very similar in that NFL bound players have little incentive playing in a bowl game or the playoffs for that matter, in fact the best talent really only needs 6 or 7 good games on tape so if you’re not 100% healthy why would they impact their draft stock for a plain jane in-season game that scouts may not be watching. How much more watering down of the season games happen before people start turning the games off like they are doing with the NBA? For NIL how can you justify payments for players that are load managing the season to protect their NFL prospects?

In football load management is obligate. The games are much more rough but they only play a fraction of the number of games in total. Putting in 2nd teamers late in the game and holding people out in questionable injury status is effectively load management in football. You also can’t afford to sacrifice games in college football. Every loss can make the difference.

If you’re a college coach letting some player selfishly dictate their workload you should be shown the door. There aren’t any Lebrons in college. You can’t “build a franchise” around players in college so they simply don’t have the same bargaining power. If someone gives up halfway through the season then they can be released and let the optics and word of mouth cost them millions, or possibly a career at all.
