It’s always intriguing to me to see who we go after locally and who we don’t. I obviously can’t know all of the details and I think my favorite quote I’ve read recently about Scalley was “Morgan Scalley watched his tape and liked it. That’s the take.” basically stating if we don’t trust these dudes yet with who they go after and who they avoid, there’s something seriously wrong with us. Below are some interesting ones that we have supposedly passed on in the class of ’22:
(My Main source of info)Ben Roberts a high 3 star that apparently performed really well at some camps locally. I am not sure why we didn’t offer him. Seems talented but there must be something missing.
George Maile I think we would take him but he didn’t show interest in being a Ute so both parties moved on.
Carsen Ryan definitely wanted to be a Ute but he was going to out-grow his position and chose to go somewhere else. -

I think it’s pretty clear that Harding doesn’t have good relationships with the Polynesian community in utah.
harding needs to be replaced by one of our many MANY NFL Polynesian offensive line players. That on its own would be a huge recruiting boost.
tge state of Utah has some of the best HS offensive line talent in the country, yet oline is routinely behind the rest of the team in recruiting. Why? Because Harding doesn’t have the trust of much of the poly community.
many of the best poly players in Utah won’t even consider Utah until we get someone in there that they trust.

It’s pretty clear you’re not a part of the team. There is a reason why certain coaches are retained.

I’m not a part of the team, but have connections in the Polynesian community. I’m not claiming anyone hates Harding, but it’s clear that he is less well liked than other pac12 coaches by certain Polynesian families and coaches.

Until Umana was replaced at center by Ford, 3/5ths of the oblock was poly (Moala, Laumea, Umana). I don’t think it’s a poly problem.

That’s quite the loaded accusation chingaskhaan.
What evidence do you have to back that??

Soooooooo, did Harding butt in front of you at Chuck-A-Rama when they were putting the scones out or something? You have quite the vendetta.

Actually I’ve heard a lot of local poly players praise him. Isaac Asiata being one of them.

Some kids just wanna get out of the Utah bubble.
I think that is the case with Ryan and Maile.
Utah can offer for offers sake but it won’t make a difference.
Roberts has a pain in the ass HC that does everything he can to make sure his players go “bigtime”. Utah has no trouble getting DTs so no reason to deal with that DB if you don’t have to.
I think it’s pretty telling that both BYU and Utah haven’t offered him. East High HC Matich is a complete tool who has a lot of influence on his players

Please explain. He has an impression list of offers, but not from Utah.

I think I remember OnlyU posting that Carsen, although a good player who had worked really hard to improve, wasn’t going to be a TE at the P5 level so we moved on from him.

A lot of really good programs have offered him. That’s all I know. And he is rather highly rated on the paid sites.

I agree that Carsen is obviously a good player based on his rating and offer list. But I trust our coaches and that they stay especially close to the local talent. And if for some reason they choose to pass on a 4* local kid, I trust they don’t see a fit. Seems crazy to pass on a 4* local kid, but I’m glad to know it was our choice vs Carsen wanting to go elsewhere.

I do as well. I found this case curious.
