I would love to see Rising come in for the first quarter, and the first quarter only (regardless of the score), just to get his feet wet. Then I would like to see Barnes take the entire 2nd quarter himself, and Johnson take the 3rd quarter himself. The 4th quarter should be nothing but running the ball (maybe a pass or two on third downs and long if necessary).

This game is a great opportunity to get Rising back in the groove. It is also a great opportunity to let Johnson pass the ball down field without fear of costing us the game.

It might be better to have Barnes take Q1, Johnson take Q2, then whoever played better take Q3. Then we let Rising come in and hand the ball off all 4th quarter with a few throws mixed in.

      Thoughts?

Cam starts and plays until Utah has a sizable lead then Johnson comes in and plays the rest of the game.

Johnson needs reps not Barnes. Bryson has reached his ceiling and isn’t getting any better with more game time.

Johnson is the future and should be QB2 the rest of the season

That is probably true about Barnes.

I agree. Play Cam to get rid of the rust. Then give the rest of the reps to Johnson. This should tell the coaching staff who the backup should be in conference play. Johnson needs the opportunity to run the entire playbook. He needs to get experience and confidence.

I’ll counter with, Nate should play in the second half, Barnes should take everything first half except the first two scoring drives. I like Barnes’s resume. Barnes is 2-0 as a starter at Utah. In his illustrious Ute career, he also has over-the-top TD passes against Ohio State, Penn State, and the Florida Gators. Against Florida, Barnes completed 66% of his passes and ran the ball well for a QB.

Agree with posts and would like to see lots of NJ.

Looking ahead to Weber State? I don’t understand this. I am looking ahead to conference play and nothing else. Utah should be 3-0 regardless of what offensively game plan takes place.
I would prefer Johnson to give the offensive a sense of rhythm. Or it could be Barnes. As long as it is something. I don’t mind Johnson doing 2-3 designed runs from Rising after that. I don’t prefer them though.
