Losing Confidence

Boy, has my confidence fallen so much this week. Was hoping that the worst was behind us, but that was wrong. The way the past two seasons have gone, coupled with this complete debacle of hiring an OC, is starting to sour me on the future of the program. Idk why some of you think that Utah going 0/2 on OC’s is a false narrative. They had Leftwich in SLC yesterday and still couldn’t lock him down. Sean O’Connell on 700 today finally started to voice what all of us have been thinking. WTF is going on up on the hill? He mentioned a source told him that even though Scalley was named coach in waiting doesn’t mean that he is waiting patiently… Sean doesn’t usually put stuff like that out on air so I think there’s some truth to some conflict between Whitt and Scalley in regards to hiring an OC. When radio silence is the status quo on the hill then all we can do is speculate. I do hope I’m wrong and everything is great and the next OC will be a home run… anyways, GO UTES!

Utah’s recruiting didn’t fall off though and the transfers have been nothing burgers though. We have a sky is falling scenario which I didn’t like but I haven’t seen the consequences.

You are right Eagle, recruiting has been decent considering the context. Maybe I’m overreacting, but I’m just worried. This is such a crucial time in CFB that we may not see consequences of current decisions manifest until a few years down the line.

Looks like a great WR to get, but I view recruiting like renting/leasing a car now days.

They are on 1 year deals, so we can trade up to a newer model or renew.

I will believe results on the field, since players have not panned out like our QB & RB room, or can just leave after each season with the transfer portal or higher offers on a new team.

Crazy to think that we almost lost Jackson and Bernard to the portal last year… imagine if Bernard didn’t return?

Culture and family fit are nice words that mean little.

I feel prep for next year starts with the OC. I would prefer we start high on the list of possibilities and work down rather than start in the middle which leads to coming up second a few times. We also need to understand that there are actually many schools with more resources than Utah. We also need to understand that there are also parts of the country that are more desirable to some candidates than SLC. Pulling off a great OC hire is harder than most think so we may need to be patient. The OC will make the QB, RB and WR recruiting go. Incoming portal news will have to wait for the portal to open go generate any burgers. The OC hire is everything for us.

I’d love to be surprised by a home run OC hire. At this point though, it appears the most likely option is Bronco’s OC. Beck may be great but to me it’s just a further sign of how small Whitt’s coaching world is.

For as much success as Whitt has had, his coaching tree is a seed that never grew. Urban has people all over the country leading programs. Whitt has had Hill, Sitake and .,, still waiting for a 3nd person that coached under him and became a head coach somewhere. I’m not going to count Taylor as a Whitt disciple since he does nothing the way Whitt did. 21 seasons and that is your legacy. If your system is so great, why aren’t your guys in head jobs everywhere like Mike Leach guys are?

Idk, I listen to OC regularly and he doesn’t typically speculate from my point of view until recently. He seems to be upset at the lack of info like most fans. But glad I gave you a good laugh!

Are we all not sure we are just waiting to hire the UNLV guy after the MWC championship game? He would be my first choice of all of the others that have gone elsewhere.
