The biggest thing I’ve noticed this year is Utah complete inability to make that one play, get that one extra yard, or make that one stop when it is needed most.
Look, our luck has been sh*t this year, with fumbles bouncing right back into opposing team’s arms, interceptions barely bouncing off our fingertips, and officiating that is beyond horrid. There’s no denying that bad karma has bit Utah in the ass…big time. All that said, we had a half dozen chances to seal away that win last night and failed every. single. time. There was no one who could step up and make (or not make regarding penalties, I suppose) that ONE big play when it mattered most.
That seems to be a consistent theme with this team. In the great years, you can name a dozen times when individual players reached down and gutted out a play through sheer force of will. It seems like there is not one player on this team who is able or willing to do that.
Maybe Utah is just incredibly unlucky. Maybe it’s leadership. Maybe it’s coaching. Maybe the players just aren’t motivated. Maybe it’s all of the above. I don’t know, but whatever “it” factor Utah has had in the past has disappeared entirely this year.
I don’t know how you fix that.
