At this point, I would be happy with either of those options. I know nothing about Wyo this year but I am usually happy to play old MWC foes. (SDSU notwithstanding).
-
Tony (admin)Keymaster
We would need to go at least 6-6, right? 4-4 the rest of the season. Seems doable, I guess.
-
Larry BParticipant
What 4 games can you see us winning? Colorado and Arizona are the only games I’m comfortable saying we’ll win.
-
Tony (admin)Keymaster
Yeah I went through the exercise of looking at the schedule. Co and Az are two “should win” games. The rest are unknown.
-
HoosierUteParticipant
The only “not gonna win” is Oregon, the P12 has been completely unpredictable this season. Utes could still figure things out and be ok, or not.
-
Larry BParticipant
Based on what I’ve seen so far I’d put ASU, USC and UCLA in the “not gonna win” category as well.
-
HoosierUteParticipant
Thats fair, but they all have losses as bad as ours so I wouldn’t count them out just yet.
-
GreatNorthernUteParticipant
I could honestly see this team losing to anyone except maybe Arizona. Yes that includes Colorado.
I can also see the defense pulling off a virtuoso performance to beat anyone.
-
utefansince79Participant
If the team plays to their potential and avoids mistakes, I see them capable of winning against most of the teams on our schedule too (Oregon may likely be out of our reach as they could have a special team this season)
A lot of football left to be played.
-
GreatNorthernUteParticipant
While I think they can beat anybody, I dont expect more than 6 wins with this offense and special teams play. I think we will be lucky to even get there.
I could easily see this team beating Oregon or UCLA and still not making a bowl.

Larry, take a Xanax buddy, it will be OK. You gotta get off the negative train, it is bad for your health.

I may go now whether or not the Utes play in the game. Meet and greet with the Better Call Saul cast prior to the release of the final season. Yes please.

I just don’t see how we get to 6 wins. My guess is we go 5-7 with wins over Arizona, CU, and 1 other random team. 7-5 is our absolute ceiling. 6-6 would make me happy right now which is sad.
-
Hellhound152Participant
On the bright side 6 of the 8 teams remaining on the schedule have fan bases saying the same thing about their teams not being able to beat anybody either.

With the exception of Arizona and CU (which I expect us to win), I honestly see all our remaining games as tossups. We have reasons to win or lose all of them:
USC: Dealing with a major coaching change and haven’t looked the part all season.
ASU: I’ve always felt they’ve been overrated, clouds hanging over the program with the NCAA investigation.
OSU: Have looked decent their last few games, but we have the talent and speed to overwhelm them.
UCLA: Came out with a big win against LSU, still too early for me to tell if they are a legit team or not. Game at RES
Stanford: Tanner McKee has been solid, but this team has a lot to prove still.
UofA: Terrible. We all know this. Maybe will find some life toward the end of the season, but not looking good.
Oregon: I could see us ruining PAC’s playoff chances by beating a top 4 Oregon in Nov. Or we could get blown up.
CU: Outside of the A&M game, they have been bad. I think we take care of business.
I think 5-7 is our floor, with 8-4 also being possible if the team continues to make progress week to week.

5-7 may get us to a bowl game. When 6-6 teams run out, they start taking 5-7 teams based on their APR ranking. That may be our saving grace for the extra bowl practices that we so desperately need.
-
Central Coast UteParticipant
It’s a PAC 12 rule that 5-7 teams do not go bowling.
-
UteBackerModerator
We better step it the hell up then.
-
Central Coast UteParticipant
Hope they do
-
UteBackerModerator
I have faith! Like I was telling by buddy at halftime last week… If the Utes could throw, run or kick we’d be pretty good this year!
-
Central Coast UteParticipant
Lol. That’s it, that’s all they have to do.

Utah is not beating Oregon. This game is likely a blow out loss based on where these teams are now. With all the awful tragedy the team has been through over the past year it’s tough to know how they respond. USC game will tell us a lot on how the team is doing.
UofA and CU are the only possible wins I see for Utah this season. UofA could be decent by the time Utah plays them so who knows.

Justin Herbert was bested by Jason Shelley on a November night like this one.
I never say never.

GreatNorthernUteParticipant
I see this team beating one or two teams they shouldnt (maybe even Oregon), and losing at least two games they shouldnt. It really seems like that kind of team.
Whether that gets to six wins depends on the toss ups. If I had to bet, I say we sneak 6 wins by the skin of our teeth.
-
krindorParticipant
Does that include the two embarrassing losses that Utah probably shouldn’t have lost. Especially SDSU? Or two more?
-
GreatNorthernUteParticipant
Two more. Could be Colorado. Or maybe blowing a big lead against Stanford and/or Oregon State. Just games that we should not lose, but lose anyway. We certainly tried against WSU.

7-5 is our absolute ceiling.
No. We have no absolute ceiling besides what’s in our rear view. We also have no absolute floor besides what’s in our rear view. The normally-unpredictable PAC12 is even more unpredictable this year. Each game is its own animal.
Utah could win every game left on the schedule, making the ceiling 10-2. Utah could also lose every game left on the schedule, making the floor 2-10.
-
2008 National ChampParticipant
Is it really more unpredictable this year? The last full season had 10 of the 12 teams between 4 and 8 wins. 2021 appears to be setting up for more of the same. Mediocrity thy name is Pac-12 Football.
