In May of 2019, the University of St. Thomas, a D-III program, was involuntarily removed from membership in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. The MIAC Presidents’ Council cited athletic competitive parity in the conference as a primary concern for removing a founding member, i.e., they win too much.
The NCAA has allowed the athletics program to transition directly to D-I. In October, the Summit League, a non-football conference, offered membership for most sports. Yesterday, the Pioneer Football League provided the university with a football conference.
Welcome to D-I, Tommies.
