Alex Markham tweeting that Miro Little was the highest paid NIL last year.

If true, it’s good he went to the portal. He is ok as a potential backup, but the NIL could certainly be better used elsewhere.

Yeah he’s got obvious talent but he’s clearly a project that Utah doesn’t need to be spending $500k on to ride the bench.

If he was paid $500K, then that shows how screwed up the system is. Based on his performance this season, Little wouldn’t even be a benchwarmer in the G League, and even the best players there earn a flat base salary of $40,500 for the five to six-month season. It’s the world turned upside down…

On the flip side, it should keep some kids in school an extra year if they are graded as a 2nd round pick. And have some kids not skip college and play overseas or in the g-league for 1 year.

So in that way it’s good for college bball as it keeps more talent in the collegeranks.

I don’t know if that’s good or bad for basketball, but it certainly is good for the individuals cashing the checks. It’s the only reason why guys like Lovering are politicking to get a fifth year of eligibility when he has no legitimate leg to stand on. Somewhere down the line, you might see players challenging the whole “four years of eligibility” ecosystem. I can envision guys saying that they should be allowed to play for schools as long as they want, provided that they’re full-time students. You could conceivably see guys in their mid-to late 20s playing college ball, strictly due to NIL, while working on their doctorates.

Definitely not to take away from your point, because you’re 100% right. But I’m pretty sure he got $500k because he was expected to be the starting PG all season. He was in the starting lineup for a number of games to start the season and was eventually put on the bench when he continued to play sloppy and undisciplined.

I suspect Miro entered the portal because he knows he won’t be getting $500k from Utah next season, and he likely knows he won’t even see a lot of playing time either. He wants to go somewhere he will be tabbed to start and earn more than the pittance Utah would be willing to pay, if they even asked him to return.

Personally, I liked Miro. He was a good teammate and seemed to enjoy being a Ute. He definitely has talent, but he needs to up his BB IQ and stop throwing the ball away. I expect he will start for a mid major team next season, maybe in the Mtn West.

Little was underused IMHO. He had talent and flashes of brilliance. I didn’t have an issue with Smith, but this is one player I think he fell short on .

Definitely underused, especially because we really didn’t have another true PG. Once Miro was benched, we relied on wings like Sharavjamts, Erickson and Madsen to run the point. Not only that, but it was several wings who rotated in that post. Just seemed like a bad idea, and the results bear that out.
