I was in the car when I heard his interview, so I am sure I have missed some things.
Riley never asked him about injuries, likely assuming he would not give a straight answer.
He talked about the two portal guys, Damuni and Battle. He said both are smart talented players that will contribute to the team.
He said that former Utes from 5 or 10 years ago who have come to practice are stunned by the depth of the talent they have. He said we were excellent in 2008 because we had very few serious injuries.
They were more physical in practice this August compared to last year because they tackled poorly last year in the opener and we are deeper this season at every position. They were much more cautious in camp last year.
The players will be glad when this game is over because we can burn the film from last year. They are tired of being embarrassed about how they played last September.
Scalley feels that Mertz is a talented QB who has some zing on his ball. When he watched the Wisconsin films he learned that his completion % was below 60% because the receivers dropped a lot of balls.
Florida’s two running backs are very good. One of them (can’t remember which one) is thicker and has great balance. He reminds Scalley of UCLA’s Charbonnet. (I hope we tackle better than we did against UCLA last year. Charbonnet ran all over us.)
He sounded upbeat and excited to get on the field.
