UtahParticipant
Ok, so here are my FINAL, final, final picks. I went week by week. I think I have Utah too high, maybe WSU too low…other than that, I really, really like it.
North
Oregon 11-1 (8-1) – I have them starting out 4-0. I have them beating Stanford because of QB and the game is in Eugene. I think Oregon has the best QB, a great DC, great OL and very, very good RB’s. They lose to Cal, as Cal is fired up, has prepared for this game since January and Oregon is maybe a little unprepared and worn down by Stanford. Then Oregon gets a bye week then Washington. That is why I give Oregon the win over Washington. @WSU, @Ariz, UCLA are all Oregon wins. Oregon is just better than them. @Utah. I gave Oregon the win because it’s Utah’s 7th game in a row, Oregon has our number and Utah has to lose at some point. It’s a game of attrition and Oregon wins that game. ASU, @OSU – Oregon is just better.Stanford 10-2 (7-2) – They should start 3-0. Then Oregon, I have them losing because Oregon has a very good DC, better QB and the game is in Eugene. I have them beating Notre Dame but then losing to Utah. Coming off the big win over ND, sixth game in a row, and Utah is coming off a big win over WSU. Also, Stanford may be looking forward a little too much to their bye week. Oh, and Stanford can’t handle Fotu playing DE. BYE then @ASU, WSU. Easy wins. @Washington, I have Stanford beating them. UW gets a tough game vs Cal the week before, Stanford isn’t going to get beat a third time and their QB is coming along. BUT, the real reason I have them beating Washington is it is a scheduled loss. This is Washington’s 10th game in a row. It’s too hard. Stanford then wins out.
Washington 9-3 (6-3) – Petersen does what Petersen does. Gets his team up for a big game on the road to start the season. This is where Petersen has made his fortune. They beat Auburn in a low scoring, defensive game. They beat North Dakota then lose to Utah. Tyler Huntley has a great game, Blackman doesn’t drop that pick and Johnson isn’t picked on. They win until they get to Oregon, on the road, Herbert is too much, Oregon’s defense corrals Browning. Beat Cal and Colorado, they are just too worn down for Stanford. Then they win out.
California 8-4 (5-4) – My “surprise” team. 3-0 to start. They get Oregon after Oregon plays Stanford and Cal gets an extra week to prepare for Oregon. Scheduled loss for Oregon. Tate is too much for Cal, they are just better than UCLA and OSU. Washington is better than Cal and they get a rough finish to the year. @USC, Stanford and end the year on a high note beating Colorado team.
Oregon State and WSU – They suck.
South
Utah 11-1 (8-1) – This is too high. But when I go week to week, this is what I get. But, I don’t really think they win this many games, but I do. They start out 2-0. I picked Utah over Washington because I think Huntley is better than Browning, our WR’s are better than theirs, and Moss is better than Gaskins…barely on all three of those. Plus, the game is in SLC. BYE for Utah then easy win @WSU. Win @Stanford because Stanford is just worn down. Utah is better than Arizona. Win over USC as Bernard has a couple TO’s, our secondary is amazing and Moss runs all over them. Plus, Whitt is just a much better coach than Todd Helton. We are just better than UCLA and ASU, as Johnson shuts down Harry and Anae has 4-5 sacks. We lose to Oregon. This is a game of attrition and we get attrited. We finish out with two rivalry wins to win the south.
USC 8-4 (7-2) – win over UNLV. Stanford’s defense is too good vs a freshman QB. Texas is just better this year, game on the road, the freshman QB thing. WSU, Arizona, wins. Bye, beat Colorado. Loss to Utah. Moss is great, our secondary is great, Bernard has his coming out party. He plays well on the big stage and this is the big stage. They almost run the table the rest of the way as JT Daniels comes into his own, but Notre Dame takes them down.
ASU 6-6 (4-5) – Win over UTSA, loss to Mich St, win @SDSU. Wilkins and Harry win that game. Loss to Washington, win over Oregon State and they run all over Colorado. Losses to Stanford, USC, Utah, beat UCLA with Wilkins and Harry, loss to Oregon, beat Arizona with more Harry and Wilkins. Herm Edwards wasn’t lying when he said his strategy was to throw the ball to Harry.
Arizona 7-5 (4-5) – Tate runs them to 4-0. USC beats them as JT Daniels throws the ball over them. Beat Cal. Tate can’t run vs Utah, losses to UCLA and Oregon. Colorado can’t stop the run, Tate runs all over them. They beat WSU and their defense can’t handle Wikins and Harry in a crazy, PAC-12 after dark 55-54 game. Tate’s inability to be a QB costs them the game on a two point OT conversion, ala Taysom Hill vs Utah.
UCLA 4-8 (2-7) – Lose to Oklahoma then a bye week. They beat Colorado with their run and Colorado’s lack of a rush defense. UW and Cal are just better than they are. I have them beating a beat up Arizona (Arizona plays Utah the week before) and both teams run, run, run. In the end, Kelly is a better coach than Sumlin and they win. The back end of their schedule is BRUTAL. Utah, @Oregon, @ASU, USC, Stanford. Good luck.
Colorado – 4-8 (2-7) – W/L/W then bye week. Four straight losses then they beat OSU. Lose to Arizona as Tate runs all over them. Beat a terrible WSU team. Loses to Utah then California, their coach gets fires.

I love it when you talk dirty

Koolaid drinking intensifies!!!!!!!!!*
So, why Utah 11-1 and what WSU 1-11
-
UtahParticipant
I believe in Utah’s leadership and I believe in Huntley. I think at the end of the year, Herbert will be the clear best QB in the conference and Huntley will be the clear #2. And I believe are FINALLY a full fledged, top to bottom, PAC-12 team.
As far as WSU, they lose their DC, their top defensive player, their top 2 QB’s, have to play USC, Utah, Arizona and all the North teams AND had a suicide on top of all of that.
That is just too much to overcome.

I want this so much!!! I didn’t bring any koolaid with me to work and I’m going through withdrawals.
So who wins the conf. champ game in your scenario? Oregon v. Utah. I assume a Utah win gets them into the playoff.

PlainsUteParticipant
That’s a lot of Oregon love there.

UtahParticipant
Great OL, best QB in the conference, easy schedule (schedule down folks!), very good defense, great defensive coordinator.

I think you’re off on Oregon. There coach cannot be trusted. I think it is a significant downgrade which will cost them a game or 2. 9-3 is more likely in my opinion.
-
UtahParticipant
You know, I don’t think you are wrong. But their OL is amazing, best in the PAC-12, their QB is best in the PAC-12, their DC is maybe best in the PAC-12 (at least in the conversation) and their schedule is soooo easy.
I trust Herbert and Leavitt a lot more than I trust Browning or whoever Stanford is starting at QB.
-
UtahParticipant
I think the winner of the north wins the Stanford/Oregon game.
