Coaching – bit of a fail to not have the guys ready to go at the first snap, but they righted the ship eventually. Once Ludwig pulled his head out and actually let Wilson throw the ball on something other than third and long we did fine offensively.

Wilson – He is a good player. He is a lot smaller than Rising, so he will never be the dual threat guy Rising is, but he looked confident throwing the ball out there when the OL gave him time to go through his options.

RB – Bernard is a stud. Love that guy. Mitchell could end up being Moss level good if he keeps improving and working on his body. I’m not sure Moss is a good comparison though. Maybe he’s more of a Booker type.

WR – It was nice to see Wilson spread the ball around. Singer got absolutely clocked on a Wilson overthrow in the second half. It was 100% PI, but it wasn’t called, maybe because the pass was too high. A drop or two from the wide receivers (I think).

TE – Kuith dropped one or two but had a good game. Lohner and Ryan came through.

OL – Played like poop for the 1st quarter and a half.

DL – Fillinger has been balling out every game so far this year. Glad to see it. Tanuvasa also had a great game.

      LB – ?

S – Gillman is the weak link on this football team. He doesn’t know how to wrap up, and he got beat like a drum today. TURRRRRIBLE. The fact that He has started ahead of Ritchie confirms my suspicions that Ritchie hasn’t quite figured things out yet… but he HAS looked better than Gillman, which isn’t hard, because he is not good. He’s the worst safety we’ve had in a long time.

K – Becker had a good game. Good to see.

Kyler Murray is way faster than Wilson. and both of those guys are much stronger. Wilson may end up being a serviceable runner, but he isn’t going to be able to push the pile like Rising can. A guy’s body can really change with 4 years of hard work, but Wilson is small (and I’m not talking about his height).

RJ Hubert was awful, but Gillman is worse in my opinion.

RJ Hubert? Who actually wasn’t that bad, he just couldn’t live up to 4 years of hype while he was rehabbing from multiple injuries. Hubert seemed to get no credit for his great plays – like his pick against SC in the CCG – and vilified for his mistakes.

He had a couple great plays in his career, but he got TORCHED multiple times a game in several other games. He was not good. Gillman is worse IMO.

I note the question mark on linebacker play. I agree. Does anyone have insight based on what they saw today? I was unimpressed. I thought Fotu was all over the place last week when he came in for Reid. I didn’t notice Reid in the game. My bigger concern is Barton. I watched him closely last week and thought he was average. Today, I didn’t see him much. Television makes it harder to watch an individual player. I didn’t even see him on the field for the last half of the fourth quarter. I wondered if perhaps he was a little dinged up.

      Anybody with information or insight?

Scalley has gone away from having his LB’s shoot the gaps so they are making their first contact after the RB/QB has already gained a couple of yards. In theory, it limits the big play but it also limits the game changing hits in the backfield we were used to with Hansen, C. Barton, Bernard, Lloyd and Sewell.

Whether that is a product of specific abilities in his current LB room or a philosophical shift I can say but it is noticeable when watching the games.

Thank you 2008. That explains the lack of aggression from that position the first three games. I hope that they settle on some sort of hybrid. Barton should be our biggest playmaker on defense.

Ritchie only came into Baylor game to spell Gilman after a bad targeting ejection to rack up 9 tackles in one half.

Nine tackles in one half of play! Gilman shouldn’t be starting. I’m not sure he should be playing any meaningful minutes.

Yes Gilman has been not great. I am a bit concerned with the safety position as we got beat late on two plays in a row but Bryson sailed both throws. Potential TDs had he connected.
