Nels Haltom made 14 of 15 kicks at Grossmont college

Everyone makes it seem like we need a miracle at kicker or we are screwed. 93% is pretty darn good guys. His long was 52 yards, that is quite good as well. He may not be Matt Gay, but he’s a solid kicker.

The other guy currently in competition with him performed not quite as well in previous experience, but it was also a much higher intensity environment. The fact that Strauch and Haltom are still battling it out is not necessarily a bad thing. These aren’t random bums pulled off the street, these guys can kick. We will be FINE at kicker.

Last time we had a tight fall camp battle for place kicker we ended up with Matt Gay.

I still can’t believe coming out of fall camp Matt Gay wasn’t the starting kicker his first year. It tells you what a crap shoot kickers really are. It’s hard to know what we have or if we should be worried.
