Not too shabby for those of us wishing the local talent would stay home.

Utah has been doing a much better job lately of holding onto the instate talent. This kid has the right build to be an excellent safety or linebacker. I guess he was a multi-sport athlete. Seems like the next guy in the Weddle/Hansen/Bishop mold (along with Ritchie hopefully).

Yep, I haven’t complained about all the top in-state guys going elsewhere for a couple of years. The two Andrews commits seem fairly similar to the naked eye. Hunter probably goes to LB and Davis stays at safety, otherwise that would be 3 safeties in this class.

Hunter’s HUDL is all RB but he runs away from DB’s.
Davis’s HUDL is all safety and he’s not quite as fast but isn’t afraid to put a hat on a guy.
Jelani Davis plays Free but hits like a Strong. Another one who will stick his hat in there.

All 3 are just what Scalley wants from his D.

Every time we get an LDS, Utah County kid – CB posters go crazy. I took a peek at the CB this morning to see how they responded. Here are a few of their responses.

      – Blamed the former D coordinator. Things will change now with Hill.
      – Utah will get killed by Oregon, USC, UW, and CU – then he will change his mind.,
      – Teenagers are stupid and so is Utah.
      – Why would he choose Utah, BYU has more NFL players. (This is not true by the way.)
      – Utah NFL players outside the kickers are all scrubs. (This may have been the funniest. Look at Kincaid, Lloyd, Williams, Blackmon, Johnson, Moss, Bolles, Barton, etc.)
      – Several of Utah’s recruits will transfer to BYU after their missions.
      – When Whitt is gone the recruiting problem will be resolved.
      – HS recruiting is no longer a big deal. It’s now all about the portal and we do much better than Utah there.
      – Whitt uses negative recruiting tactics and Sitake refuses to do that.
      – Someone actually blames the honor code. That seems odd since this kid is LDS and plans on going on a mission.

Nice get for the Utes. Keep up the great recruiting of the best in-state players.

I love that BYU fans are focusing their future hopes on Whitt retiring. I especially love that they think our recruiting hinges on Whitt’s presence. Yes, his presence is a plus, but Whitt is much closer to being our worst recruiter than our best. He has a damn good eye for talent, but that has nothing to do with us getting instate recruits over BYU. Whitt is mostly just a figurehead that the actual recruiters can point to and say, “You and I both know you would love playing for that guy.” That is of course an advantage, but when Scalley takes over it will be more of the same.

Scalley will always be considered a defensive guru. When he becomes head coach, I hope he finds a great offensive coordinator and a separate QB coach. Scalley will be able to recruit the best LDS players, possibly even better than Whitt.

It’s nice that even though I deliberately avoid sites where the parochial school fans do what fans do, I can still keep updated here. I’m not sure what my life would be like if I didn’t get updated on what non-fans of my favourite school think about my favourite school.

Just set me to ignore. I will not dwell on BYU, but from time to time I may post about the CB response. I just find CB posts about Utah to be funny and sometimes entertaining. I don’t post about the BYU football team, coaches, or players.
