Read this on a USC message board and thought it was good stuff:
So I sat next to a Tampa Bay Bucs scout who was on the SC sideline most of the game. Below is what he (the scout said he saw in the game).
#1 He said many times and even told his boss on the phone that USC looked scared before the game. He said you could see it on their faces in the tunnel.
#2 He said that the Bama secondary put on a clinic. Said they were in Double Star coverage on Juju 90% of the time and that our Oline actually did a good job of pass blocking. The problem was Max was forced to hold the ball too long as none of of recievers besides Juju could beat press coverage. He said this many times. Said if USC had even 1 other WR that could beat press coverage it would have been a complete different game.
#3 Said our Oline could not run block at all and the backs looked to bounce and would not hit the hole full speed. Said this is because they seemed scared.
4. He told me he was there to scout juju specifically. He said Juju actually did a great job of getting off the line but with the double star coverage our coaches should have changed up game plan a little to force Bama to move the extra man off Juju so Browne would have a 1 on 1 match up with Juju.
5. Said our D played with heart but no discipline as they were always out of position. Said this could have been a combination of poor coaching and fatigue. Which brings me to #6.
6. Said it was easy to tell we still had no depth. Said our starters on D had the talent we just did not have enough capable backups.
7. Said with the exception of #35 no one knew how to tackle on D. He did say Adore did a good job on Ridley but unlike Helton, Kiffin just decided to take advantage of the other corners and not even bother with going at Adore.
He said some other stuff that has already been posted about. The last thing he told me really strikes a chord for a possible QB change.
8. The scout said every time Darnold was in the game Clay Helton called the plays himself and not Tee Martin. The scout thought this was a very bad idea. Said it seemed like Helton did not trust Tee and that Helton liked Darnold more that Browne. Told me he has been a NFL scout 12 years and never before seen 2 different play callers for 2 different QB’s. He though Clay should call all the plays or call plays in certain situations but not for a specific situation. Said that is something he will look foward to seeing as he will also be at the USC/Stanford game.

USC is a hot mess and probably is going to get a lot hotter if they lose to Stanford and us. Off field issues before the season started, the nut stomp and getting embarrassed by Alabama screams of undisciplined, poor coaching. Oh, and JuJu leaving practice yesterday, what’s up with that?

They were a dumpster fire for weeks until they played us, if you recall last year. Hope that doesn’t happen again.

I think that was Helton’s first game after Sark got canned. SC re-grouped and rallied. It seems like they rallied around Ogeron when he took over too. I hope Helton does not get canned after the Stanford game or else we’ll be facing another SC rally.

I posted this more for the specific comment that USC’s receivers could not beat the press coverage. Whitt prefers a press coverage and we have the secondary to pull that off. This was some very insightful input from an NFL scout. The fact that USC is a mess was a given. I do not need to post about that.

Oh that jumped out at me in spades! Also the comment about looking scared. Plus what you posted in another thread, one of those links had some comments about USC being soft had me jumping up and down with delight. BUT … they own us! We’ve got to hand them a stiff, hard loss like Alabama did then I’d feel comfortable openly criticizing them.
