Check these out:
NHL Utah (AMAZING) Concept logos & jerseys
Which one do you like? Maybe Tony should start a poll. I must admit that I didn’t think much of Venom as a name but man, that’s a cool jersey.
-
WhittyParticipant
My favorite names right now are the Outlaws and Mammoth. I liked the Mammoth concept jersey in this video; not so much the Outlaws options… But they can call the team whatever they want for all I care – just ecstatic that the NHL is here!!
-
MDUteParticipant
Mine are still the Mountain themes: 1) Blizzard, 2) Storm, 3) Freeze
-
The Miami UteParticipant
If you’re going to go with a mountain weather theme, the one I like is Utah Chinook.
-
MDUteParticipant
There’s a word I’ve never heard before…interesting.
-
The Miami UteParticipant
Really? It’s most well known for the CH-47 Chinook helicopter but it’s actually a prevailing warm, generally westerly wind in western North America.
-
-
BoiseUTEParticipant
I always thing of Chinook as the Salmon as well. I guess from living up in Seattle for so long.
-
The Miami UteParticipant
I didn’t get that…did you mean that you think of a salmon when you hear the word Chinook?

They are all quite tacky IMO. Best one is the trout. Most of them give off monster energy bro vibes (that is a bad thing). We should go for a more classic look IMO.
-
The Miami UteParticipant
If you’re going to use a trout as your mascot, they should use the name Utah Cutthroats. It makes sense since the Utah State Fish is the cutthroat trout.

It is going to end up being the Yeti(s). The sentimental choice of Utah hockey fans is Golden Eagles but that definitely won’t happen because of the Golden Knights.
-
The Miami UteParticipant
And just think…Vegas was originally supposed to be the “Black Knights” but that’s also the official nickname of all of the sports teams at West Point (Vegas’ owner is a West Point grad) and they took offense at a pro franchise co-opting their name. So, instead, we got the “Golden Knights” which is also the nickname of the Army Parachute team. The Army didn’t have an issue with a hockey team using the name.
-
MDUteParticipant
Since RS says he’s going to decide the team name by online fan vote, I too think it’s going to end up being the Yeti. That seems to be the name that has generated the most interest from fans. And I’m sure the Zoobs will especially Jimmer the votes for Yeti.
Personally, I think it’s a stupid name. It will seem cool at first but quickly fade to being lame. Why? Because it’s a made-up snow creature. It’s like naming your team Bigfoot or Boogeyman…stupid.
-
The Miami UteParticipant
Enter the Kraken, Ducks, and Devils…plus what exactly is a “Blue Jacket”? And then you have the Canucks, which can be interpreted as a derogatory term as it’s essentially a northern version of “gringo”. I think Yetis will do just fine…but that’s just my opinion.
-
MDUteParticipant
Yea I hear ya. I don’t like any of those names either for the same reason. I remember when they were rebranding the Washington Bullets and decided on the Wizards and it seemed kind of cool at first but then everyone thought it was ultimately dumb. IMO, I just think it’s a wasted opportunity when the name/mascot doesn’t have some type of tie to the local community. But whatever…nothing I’ll lose any sleep over.
-
AlohaUteParticipant
What names do you like?
I’m OK with Yeti, but thunk I’d prefer something like Utah Elk.
-
MDUteParticipant
Mentioned earlier in the thread that I prefer the mountain themed names given it’s a winter sport, namely: 1) Blizzard, 2) Storm, 3) Freeze
And then go with a mountain animal that’s native to Utah as the mascot, such as Moose or Elk/Stage.
-
The Miami UteParticipant
Blizzard with a Moose or Elk mascot/logo would work for me. The problem for a lot of people is the name’s closeness to Avalanche.

Yeti gets worse for me each day. It’s like a kids cartoon. Mammoth or Venom are getting more interesting for me each day.
-
NashvilleUteParticipant
Yeti is a bad choice. I get that it’s some kind of snow creature which is cool, but all I think of when I hear the name are all those Yeti water bottles and tumblers. Since not everyone knows what a Yeti really is, in some people’s minds we’d just be the Utah Water Bottles. Maybe a built in sponsorship waiting to happen, but totally not worth it.
-
MDUteParticipant
Funny you say that. This will date me but Yeti always makes me think of Scooby Doo haha. There’s some big, scary Yeti walking around scaring everyone away until Scooby Doo and the gang catch the Yeti. And when they do they pull off his mask only to find out it’s just old Mr. Johnson who says something like, “I would’ve gotten away with it if it hadn’t been for you meddling kids” haha!
-
The Miami UteParticipant
Yeah, I guess I’m also of a certain age. To me “Yeti” will always be associated with the term “Abominable Snowman” and the Himalayas. Yeti coolers are a product of the last decade and still don’t register with me.

The NHL has a ton of classic jerseys. Blackhawks, Redwings, Oilers, Rangers, Bruins, Canadiens, Pittsburgh, Philedelphia, NJ, St Louis, Buffalo… All of those teams have instantly recognizable, Iconic Jerseys that look great. We need a simple logo with a simple color scheme that looks classic.
Think of all the best logos in sports. Few if any are anything much more than simple lettering.
-
GugstanleyParticipant
It will be the Utah Elders. White top and black pants.
My vote is for the Golden Eagles -
chinngiskhaanParticipant
I saw a concept for Utah Prospectors that was pretty cool. I don’t love the name because it is kind of a mouthful, but at least it isn’t some tacky animal mascot.
-
-
WJUteParticipant
Utah Eagles. Mascot can be a Golden Eagle. Utah Yeti is a name a rec league baseball team would choose.
-
The Miami UteParticipant
I guess we can join the club. There’s only about 130 other teams that use the Eagle nickname.
