ParticipantNot an easy team to play against…Dr Hill did us no favors scheduling this game but it will help prepare us for the Pac-12 . We survived and escaped with a win and no major injuries which is huge.
OLine was borderline awful last night. #15 killed us with his speed. We averaged 1.9 per attempt on the ground…Huntley rarely had a clean pocket and still completed a high percentage of his throws…20-31 for 286 and no picks. That’s not terrible…6 drops by our WR’s takes that well above 300…Leadership guys like Mariner and Simpkins have to step up AND Thompson needs to get healthy. 3 holding penalties (Agisiva) negate 1st down drive extending plays. FG blocked and another missed.
Our defense was outstanding…JJ got beat twice over the top but it didn’t hurt us. Fotu got washed but Penisini stepped up. 111 on the ground and 117 in the air. Gives us a chance against anyone.
Deep breath and bring it at the RES this week. Big game after big game the rest of the way. Go Utes!!

ParticipantThis is a game when NIU is 10-2 and we are prepping for the PAC-12 title game, we will look back on and realize the experience was invaluable.

ParticipantI totally agree. And I fully expect Northern Illinois to be 10-2 by the end of the season, which would mean that they would have wins at Florida State and at BYU. Will people still see this as a “bad” game, or, will it be seen as a great win?

ParticipantYou, sir, are a living antidepressant. Thank you for braving the negativity. I hope you read the OL the riot act and they come out ready to rip some heads off.

ParticipantNorthern Illinois reminds me a lot of Utah when we were in the MWC, the kind of team that just battles you. They may not have the talent of most elite teams, but they do really well with what they have and will give “better” teams fits.

ParticipantThat game and the situation Utah is in right now is eerily similar to 2008. If you all remember, the week before Utah famously beat TCU 13-10, they played at New Mexico and only won 13-10 in what was thought to be a game they should have “dominated.” Well, they didn’t, and yet they still came out the next week and beat a TCU team who finished ranked in the Top 10 that season. Well, this scenario is nearly the exact same situation that Utah is in this right now. We’ll see if the result is the same. Go Utes!

ParticipantHe’s got a hamstring…not sure yet but no better than 50/50 today. We’ll see how he responds this week. Last week was not good.
