Positives – and there were plenty.
Defensively we have some really good young talent. I think the tackling was better this year against USC than I’ve see for the past few years. Clark Phillips got beat on that one TD but overall he performed really well. I’m excited to see him improve against D1 talent.
Rising – he had some decent plays, I think the game plan for the first 10-20 scripted plays was very good. I’d like to see more of the man in action, then heading toward the line plays. And Rising’s throw to the outside while under pressure to Fotheringham was a very very good play in my mind.
Nephi Sewell – two turnovers. Scoop and score and an interception, nice to a Sewell on our team making a difference.
I personally thought the receivers weren’t bad. You don’t beat USC by throwing hail marys down the field, you win by moving the chains. And the receivers had a few good catches to cover up the QB issues. Did you see USC’s receivers drop a few really catchable balls in the first half? I don’t think any of our receivers were horrible when the ball was catchable. Enis had a few good catches, Bryan Thompson had a good catch, and while Kuithe wasn’t targeted much he made some good catches.
Ty Jordan – he looked like I had hoped DHC would in a game.
Sampson Nacua – he played with lots of heart tonight. Gutted it out when he looked less than 100%. His first punt return gave the team some juice.
Negatives – I got to see Utah play football. And in 2020 that’s enough for me to overlook a ton of negatives.
The turnovers were fixable. And if fixed we’re in that game.
I’m excited to see this team next year, this year is a write off for me. And honestly I enjoyed this game to get the last two games out of my head.
