ParticipantUtah: Vanderbilt offensive coordinator Andy Ludwig, Utah offensive line coach Jim Harding, and Virginia offensive coordinator Robert Anae are candidates for the offensive coordinator job at Utah, per the Salt Lake Tribune. Ludwig previously served as Utah’s offensive coordinator for four seasons before leaving after the 2009 season, Harding has been on staff for five seasons and previously held a co-offensive coordinator title in 2015-16, and Anae previously coordinated the offense at BYU for nine seasons before following Bronco Mendenhall to Virginia.”

ParticipantOf the three, I think Lidwig is the best option.

ParticipantWay to put a Lid on the search!

Participant… UG.. At least we bring back a veteran offense.

ParticipantAgreed. It could always be worse I guess.

ParticipantYeah Pace could do the hiring, just the WORST!

ParticipantDon’t really like hearing Anae is seriously in the mix.
If he gets hired, I’d bet good money that Covey leaves.
-
EagleMountainUte
ParticipantHate the hire of Anae personally.

ParticipantProbably just like one of those Game of Thrones extra endings they film to throw everyone off.

ParticipantTwitter is saying Ludwig is a done deal.

ParticipantI’ll take Anae’s offense circa 2006-2009 in a heartbeat.
But if it’s Anae 2010 to present, I’d rather have Ludwig.
If it’s Harding, just pencil in 5-4 in Pac-12 play and book your tickets for the Vegas Bowl early.

ParticipantIf you want Anae in any form, you are basically saying you don’t want Covey on the team. Anae was the beginning of the end of the Covey relationship to BYU. The Covey’s won’t ever hate BYU, and they may not hate Anae, but of all the coaches of american football in the entire world, he’s probably the one the dislike the most. He treated their older sun like garbage. He felt the need to call him out in front of the team for being a rich white kid, even though he (much like Brit) was and is very humble, and does not flaunt his riches.
I can’t say for certain that Brit and his family wouldn’t be willing to to make amends, but I doubt Anae is humble enough to do anything of the sort.

ParticipantI always considered Roscoe as a deluded sort of play the part zoob. Anae is a full on mouth breather Zoob. Don’t trust him at all.

ParticipantCovey is just the tip of the iceberg with Anae. Half of our Offensive Line and some of our D line players also do not get along with him and specifically did not go to byu because of him.

ParticipantVandy fans are ecstatic someone is trying to hire Ludwig away. Seems like this is always the case with him.

MemberIt’s becaise he’s a marginal OC and marginal coaches have limited opportunties – thus, he’s looking at the Utah offer. Kwhitt has made Utah an elephant graveyard for OC’s.

ParticipantEx-Falcons OC Steve Sarkisian is interviewing for the same position in Arizona on Thursday. In Pace logic that must mean Whitt didn’t offer him. 🙄
-
Puget Ute
ParticipantWell, Atlanta paid him $4.5M/yr and the Arizona Cardinals will probably pay him somewhere near that. The highest-paid coordinator in CFB makes about $1.5M or so (maybe Brent Venables at Clemson makes more than that now?). There is no way to compete with that.

ParticipantThose Vandy fans need to read more Ute fan boards. Then they’ll found out that Vandy’s sucking isn’t really Ludwig’s fault.
-
Puget Ute
ParticipantWhat are you talking about? We were full on ‘Fire Ludwig!!’ in the middle of our best season ever. We even have plenty of fans who think Brian Johnson was the OC calling his own plays in the Sugar Bowl.
-
EagleMountainUte
ParticipantRemember when the offense slowed down to chew clock in the Sugar Bowl? I dont much either but his play calling at times rubbed me wrong. I also hated the Louks packages.

ParticipantLudwig’s win/loss as an OC in D1 over the last 21 years is 154 -101. Averages 7 wins a year and a .60 win percentage.
Now this does include things not within his control (I.e Special Teams and Defense) I get that. But overall not terrible numbers for his career.
Does anyone have the Offensive stats (Yards, Points, and Plays per game) for the same 21 years? I’m too lazy to calculate right now. :]
-
EagleMountainUte
ParticipantYeah I think he may be the best choice with Sark off the table.
-
Central Coast Ute
ParticipantLudwig was only the OC. Not the HC. He can only be credited with what the offense does. Now, if those were all 51-50 wins (they’re not), then yes, it’s the offense winning the games and he gets the credit.

Puget Ute
ParticipantUteBuntu makes a good point in this tweet. Ludwig’s S&P+ is better than just about anything else we have seen.
-
chinngiskhaan
ParticipantHis offense at Vandy has made progress every year. That says a lot IMO
-
UteThunder
ParticipantThis doesn’t show much to be encouraged about.
Our average ranking since he left is 58. His average ranking overall is 52. If you take out his G5 years, his average ranking is 59 which is his average ranking for all years since he left, too. His highest high(18) is lower than ours without him(8) and his lowest low(116) is worse than ours without him(111).
-
Tednab
ParticipantYou can spin it any direction you want, he is average at best and we’ll be in the same situation next year or the year after.. whit should just run the offensive

ParticipantDid not realize he was in Wisconsin with Gary Andersen.
Andy did get better each place consistently.
-
UteThunder
ParticipantHow exactly did he get better at each place consistently?
-
