      Let’s do a quick review.

2005 – 2008 – Ludwig, I think he really benefitted from BJ. Then he left for Kansas St.

      2009 – 2010 – Schramm

      2010 – 2012 – Roderick

      2011 – Norm Chow

      2012 – 2013 – Brian Johnson

      2013 – Erickson

      2014 – Christensen

      2015 – 2016 – Roderick

      2017 – 2018 – Taylor

Other than Christensen, I think every one of the OC’s got better after leaving Utah. Taylor is now the head coach of Stanford, Roderick just OCed TDS to a victory over our Utes, BJ – Eagles, Commanders enough said. Schramm also did well at Fresno after Utah.

2012 Schramm at Fresno, they avg 37.9 ppg.
2013 Schramm at Fresno, they avg 40 ppg.
2014 Schramm at Fresno, they avg 26 ppg.
2015 Schramm at Fresno, they avg 22
2018 Schramm at Weber St, they avg 27.6
2019 Schramm at Weber St, they avg 48.9 (so much for three years to learn an offense.

Christensen was never an OC after Utah.
      2007 – Missouri OC, avg 39.9 ppg
      2008 – Missouri OC, avg 42.2 ppg.

Those are just a couple examples. Why would any OC want to work for Whitt? He’s almost killed some careers, and probably did Christensen.

Why would Utah be paying Ludwig so much money when it was apparent he wasn’t able to produce points? Why not? Whitt. Look I appreciate Whitt’s contribution to Utah sports but the way he’s managed the last two seasons and claiming this year he’s in the twilight zone. Time to move on. Step down Kyle, play with your grandkids, let your money grow in some good investments and stop working for it.

Let’s add to this issue. Whittingham is a lame-duck coach. We all know who his replacement is and we know his contract is up in 2027 at the latest.

My question is how involved will he be in the OC hire? Anything less than letting Scalley do all of it will be a disadvantage to him. Also, if we hire someone, how much will Whittingham handicap the offense since he is the head coach?

I watched the Brawl of the Wild yesterday. Only full game I watched. I miss the days of football not just being about $. Great game for the Bobcats.

100% a great came with the Bobcats winning. I watched it from start to finish and I wish we had an offense like MSU.

Whitt will 100% make the offense huddle up and run the clock. It is who he is.

If you think Scalley is the future, then it’s time for Whitt to go.

Yet lowly Utah who had been irrelevant prior to that except the year before managed to go:

        1. Undefeated in 2008 and finished 2nd in the country

2.Got promoted to the Pac 12

        3. Won 2 Pac12 Championships

        4. Played in two Rose Bowls

        5. Has one of the highest % of weeks ranked in the CFP rankings

The offensive struggles are super annoying and frustrating. We need major changes in that regard, but despite thar, Utah has become one of the most respected and successful programs in the last two decades.

Let’s not lose out minds here.

          1. 16 years ago. This accomplishment is old enough to drive. It’s great, but it’s getting dusty.
          2. Thanks to Texas and not being BYU or Boise State. In the timeline where Texas accepts the PAC12 offer, we’re not in a power conference.
          3. Genuinely impressive to go back to back in any conference. No critiques, it’s the best thing he has going for him
          4. This is the same accomplishment as above. You’re padding.
          5. Has the highest % of weeks ranked in the CFP without actually going to the CFP. Good to be respected, but that’s a lot of bites at the apple for never getting over the hump.

I think there’s fair arguments on both sides of the Whitt debate. I guess it mostly reads as some people see this season as an inflection point to change and some see it as a season long version of the 2007 game against UNLV.

Regarding the CFP. If the current system had been in place when Utah was winning two Pac-12 titles, then they would have been in the playoffs. Unfortunately for Utah, the new system coincides with the worst season in 22 years.

2021: it would be between #11 Utah and #12 Pitt for the 5th conference autobid. Does the committee still jump 10-3 Utah 6 spots for beating Oregon in the CCG and rank higher than 11-2 Pitt? Bama, Michigan, Cincy & Baylor get the byes.

2022: it would be between #8 Utah and #9 K State for the last bye. Does the committee jump 10-3 Utah 3 spots and ahead of K State even though the TCU win > SC win? Either way, Utah gets one of the 5 autobids. Georgia, Michigan, Clemson get top 3 seeds.

Winning the conference those years was great but those were still 3 loss seasons which provides no guarantee of making the playoff. And does 2021 Utah get dinged for losing to two G5’s, even if they both ended up ranked?
