was the last time we won a football game. š

Ted LassoParticipant
How are you feeling about the OC change? I have to admit it makes me nervous. I think changing a coach can make a pretty sizable difference at times. Even if the offense isnāt great and just competent, that could be enough to put Utah over the edge against BYU. I still think Utahās defense is pretty good, even if itās not as strong as past years.

For what it is, I’m optimistic. He was quality control and a quarterback coach in the NFL for about 7 years. Heās with Isaac on the sidelines after every possession. He’s a high functioning brain. I’ll take it.

I just hope we can somehow find a way to make a defense pay for constant blitzes and stacking the box. Something other than a run up the middle. Geez.

Which is football coaching 101. Blows my mind how incompetent the Lud was. In Baja Blast we trust.

and ranked #10 in the AP poll. Attended the game Saturday on short notice. On a positive note, I was impressed with the fan turnout and how the MUSS has grown since I last attended a game. A lot of fans peeled out at half time tired of watching late night very bad football, can’t argue with that. Had flash backs to my first Utah football game against Idaho in 93. Interesting times for Utah football.

I guess time will tell Lasso. The offense was not working for Wilson. Move Singer around and put him in motion to get open early. More quick passes and screens. Routes are taking too long to develop. Wilson is holding the ball way too long. He looks just like Zach with the Jets.
Unless we make some changes on offense BYU will have no problem doing what everyone else is doing. We have this week to experiment a bye week to make adjustments and hopefully ready to score more points against BYU. We were dead in the water with Ludwig. He was to predictable and hasnāt utilized his best players.
-
XanthisParticipant
I would love to see more pre snap motion. Its something I don’t thing Ludwig ever used enough and can help a QB diagnose the defense. It also allows you to get defenses playing zone in some trouble when you overload areas.

Jim VanderhoofParticipant
Plus move guys around in different formations. Short crossing routes to keep Lbs from blitzing every play. Seems the defense is confusing us and we should be confusing them.

That streak ends on Saturday!

Ludwig isnāt the majority of this teams failures.. itās gonna take more than a bandaid to fix this
-
KellsoParticipant
No, but itās a start. When Lud was here in 2005-2008, it was more of the same. Predictable play calling. When he came back in 2019, he had Huntley who was able to audible and had experience. In 2020 COVID. The start on the 2021 season he started a QB that couldnāt lead a team. Finally Cam got the nod during the 3 OT game vs San Diego State. We are all ready for the change. The players have a massive amount of heart and the talent is definitely there. This could happen quickly too.

In triage you have to address the worst problems first.
-
Jim VanderhoofParticipant
I agree Tednab but itās not like we donāt have any talent. The players are frustrated and need a change. Itās been two years since our offense last clicked with Cam. Defenses are just teeing off on the QB. If the armchair QBs can see it then surely the coaches can too. Iāll be curious to see the offense this week. Keep Whitt away from the offense. Let the new guy be creative.
-
TednabParticipant
No I fully agree with what your saying , but this has been Whits Achilles heel that heās never figured out . So I am just as curious as you are on how this shapes out on Saturday and the future going forward. At some point Whits needs to own it and be held accountable.
-
RoboUteParticipant
Realistically in a week not much can change from a nuts and bolts perspective. You just hope that the playcalling is a bit more on point and the players are energized. Hoping to be a different team altogether in late October/November is just foolish.
