There’s been a lot of speculation that the eventuality in CFB is two divisions, essentially the SEC and the Big10.

Numbers have been thrown out as to the size of each division, most recently 20-32 teams each.

People ask, why would the two conferences expand to include schools that don’t add to the per school revenue?

It’s simple. To kill off the rest of CFB.

The Big12, Pac12, and ACC continuing to exist is not in the best interest of the Big10/SEC. They don’t want eyeballs directed away from their product. They want ALL the eyeballs.

In order to do that, they can’t have solid teams like Clemson, FSU, Oklahoma State, UW, Oregon, ASU, Utah, Baylor etc. existing outside of their umbrella. It slows their efforts to consolidate power.

They’ll take short-term revenue dilution by adding these “pesky” teams in order kill off the rest of CFB and to have the whole cake down the road.

I’m sure there are business case analyses that could validate or disprove my theory here. Interested to hear your thoughts.

IMHO, it’s all about the teams they could add that would ADD to the $ coming to each member school. Adding schools that subtract from the payout each receives is probably a non-starter. The further expansion of the B1G depends on whether they can entice Notre Dame to join. If they can, they will add one or three more teams, Probably out of UO, UW, and Stanford.

Dennis Dodd reporting UO and UW not joining BIG. BIG waiting on ND. No school will add value to the BIG payout per school other than ND. Maybe this is where they’ll sit for now.

If that’s really the case, then staying in the Pac12 with UW and OU is worth it. IMO, the B1G is crazy for not adding UW.

None of the Big 12 schools are going to go west. Rumors are the TV contact was already going to be inline with what the Pac was going to get, and that was when USC/UCLA were part of the occasion. Without them there’s a 0% chance. The Big 12 is currently in a better position than the Pac moving forward.

I was surprised that UCLA could go somewhere without Cal since they are managed together. Next, however Washington State and Oregon State likely fall very far if Washington and Oregon move on. At the end of the day, it seems hard to believe that the people at the top will allow one of their teams to advance at the expense of one of their other teams. That may hold the Pac together. The Pac may be able to bring UCLA back if they offered to let San Diego State take USC’s spot. The Pac would do well to talk to the people above individual schools.

The Pac could also consider taking the best of the Big 12 to try to match what the BIG 10 is doing. The new schools going to the Big 12 should be nervous.

You lost me at UCLA coming back if SDSU offered USC’s spot.

Pac announced they’re exploring expansion.  Ok State may be getting a call.  Or Clemson & Ga Tech?  Looking toward Big-12 or ACC???

Likely a long shot but possible if someone above both schools in the Cal system makes a decision best for Cali schools in general. Assuming state schools do not stand completely on their own.

SDSU and UCLA are not under the same system. State schools and UC schools are different.

Rumor on Twitter is now that people are optimistic about ND and UO joining to BIG.
