How long should it take for pac-12.com to release an article about this?

Not that complicated, is it? If the Ducks win, they’re in. If they lose and WSU wins, WSU is in. If both lose, the Beavers are in.

There have been a number of posts on here indicating that it is not that simple.

It’s very complicated how it gets to that point, but the end result is pretty simple and as described

          Then those posts are wrong.

If Ducks win, they have the best record. They’re in.

If Ducks lose and WSU loses, then Beavers and Ducks tie. Beavers win tiebreaker because they won head-to-head. OSU is in.

If Ducks lose and WSU wins, then all 3 of them tie. They each went 1-1 against the other two, which is the first tiebreaker. Second record is division record. In this scenario, WSU would be 4-1 in division, and the others would be 3-2. WSU is in.

The confusion is that the Pac-12 website says this (my emphasis added):

            “Multiple-Team Ties:

The following procedures will only be used to eliminate all but two teams, at which point the two-team tie-breaking procedure will be applied.

            1. Head-to-head (Best record in games among the tied teams).
            2. Record in games played within the division.
            3. Record against the next highest placed team in the division (based on record in all games played within the conference), proceeding through the division.
            4. Record in common conference games.
            5. Highest ranking by SportSource Analytics Following the last weekend of regular-season games.”

So, do they really follow this and ONLY use it to eliminate one team and then do head to head from there, or do they look at #2 and give it to WSU due to their higher record in division? I think WSU would deserve it in this scenario, but if they follow the letter of the rule it’s not that simple.

Thanks for sharing this…pretty much contradicts everything ESPN was saying last night and the majority of the posts here, including mine. Leave it up to the PAC 12 to make something more complicated than it needs to be.

      There are 3 simple scenarios.
      1) Oregon wins outright
      2) Oregon State wins the 2 way tie
      3) Washington State wins the 3 way tie
