Question regarding everyone’s favorite topic: the Utah quarterback situation. Is the QB battle this week more about Isaac being banged up and seeing if Rose has more rhythm with the offense? If it is injury related, why wouldn’t Rose just be the starter vs Poo Poo U? Everything I’ve read seems to suggest the staff afraid of benching Wilson and him maybe transferring. I’m confused why all of the sudden there’s a competition if there’s this underlying fear of p**sing off the Wilsons. Happy Halloween and go Utes!

Man, I’d really hate to be a college coach right now. Brutal.

Can’t speak for Only U, but here are some thoughts:

I don’t think we would have seen IW pulled from the Houston game if Ludwig was still OC. Ludwig was tight with IW and an integral part of his recruiting process. With the way that process went and the strong pushes made by some big brands late (*cough* Georgia), I’m fairly certain there were subtle assurances given to IW that he was coming in as Cam’s heir apparent. So, he’s had a leg up on the other backups from the beginning in the sense that the coaches wanted to follow through. That’s not to say he didn’t display talent through camp and practices that helped him secure the QB2 role, but it seemed to be his job to lose from the beginning. And now that Ludwig is gone, the team is seeing its worst stretch in a decade, and there’s an interim OC in place who is fighting for his career life right now, the semantics of IW’s commitment and future in the program are naturally taking less precedence. So, with Rose showing improvements in recent practices and the offense sputtering with multiple 3 and-outs to start the 2nd half against Houston (and Wilson appearing somewhat affected by injury), Bajakian was allowed to do what he felt he needed to do to give us our best shot at winning. That sentiment has continued into this week, with the plan to see who can lead the offense most effectively right now, regardless of everything else.

I’d love to see Rose vs Poo Poo U. Even just for the intrigue. Why not see what happens? Literally cannot get worse offensively.

My thoughts also. Not sure Wilson’s bad habits can be changed in two weeks. Rose is more of a wildcard. If he can get rid of the ball quick and hit the back in the flat to nullify the blitz he should be the starter.

IMO here’s pros and cons of going with Rose in this game

Pros – Much less film on him, 100% healthy, bigger body QB than IW, more likely to be integrated into the running game than IW, Bajakian recruited him hard at NW so there’s a stronger relationship there

Cons – Has attempted 15 career passes at 46% completion, Having first career start be a cold night game against bitter rival who is rolling is a tough ask, byu-p has feasted on turnovers from QBs and a QB making first start is prone to those

Add in the anemic offense with its list of issues going against a DC and HC knowing Utah’s flat offensive scheme and tendencies. Hoping Sitake learned from KW how to orchestrate the yearly WTF game next week so Utah has a chance. KW’s taking it to a new level with the WTF season. Maybe we’ll see some optimistic rivalry magic and B12 after dark craziness. Cheering on Utah with adjusted expectations.

Wait I thought Whit kept a tight rope on the O and thus only he would have made such decisions on QB 😉

Interesting thoughts Ghost. Rose must have a big chip on his shoulder like Cam when Brewer was handed the starting job. Million dollar question “who gives us the best chance to win”. Hill will put heavy pressure on both regardless who starts. We’ve seen it the last 4 games. Can we adjust and take advantage?

What does Utah have to lose at this point by starting Rose?

Roles have reversed in that Utah has nothing to lose in this game. I’d love to a whole new look offense just to throw BYU off. It is a rivalry game. Weird things happen.

If the ding against Rose has been his inability to pick up the ‘complex’ Ludwig playbook, then this is his chance. Not like he has to hand off, hand off, incomplete to the flat like Ludwig. Simplify it and play to his physical strengths. Use Singer and Kuithe as well as a few others (Stanley on a screen?) with a decent dose of MB when the box only has 7 (byu likes to drop more, but will stack the box until we can show we can pass). Why not?

Rose is bigger than IW maybe a few 3rd and 4th down RPOs. Make the defense adjust instead of offense adjusting.

You guys know who Rose reminds me of? Brett Ratliff. And, just like Ratliff in 2005, I hope he craps all over BYU’s parade next weekend. Let fly Brandon, let fly….

I’m in Vegas eating in a dark restaurant and didn’t see that post. It was just the first thing that popped into my mind. And Rose even has a faint resemblance to Ratliff as well… I’m glad that you and I see eye to eye on this

The sniff test of Rose not grasping the offense doesn’t make sense to me. How can IW grasp it in few months and Rose not have a better handle on it in a few years. The only answer would be Rose is dumb as rocks. But that can’t be true. There is no way NW recruited him if he was dumb. Their pitch is not you can come and win a championship. It is come get a great education because you are smarter than the average bear.

Wilson and Ludwig were tied together. Especially in his recruitment. The fear of Wilson transferring etc etc. The politics of modern day college football. Bajakian deserves a shot as well the last few games. Everything is finally on the table. For everyone. Earn your damn job.

Rose was announced as QB1 at the start of 2023 fall camp. It’s 1000% BS why he’s been sitting on the bench a long with Glover.
Fortunately the local media won’t ask any tough questions.

Is this what Bernard was alluding to when he said he knows why the season nosedived but wouldn’t say why?
