This is a new thread to track planned new features and/or improvements to the site.
- One “feature” I’m researching is the threaded view, similar to UFN or cougarboard. It isn’t one of my favorites but many who are used to that view want it, so I’ll see if it can be done.
- Ignore Member is one feature which may be possible. Still researching.
- Unfollow category has been requested for categories like the byu category. This is not a built in feature and would probably take a lot of work to do. The good news is that since this is a standard forum software and there are individual categories, one can simply choose not to click on the category! BINGO.
More to come in this thread.

What about a way to highlight New or Recent posts within a thread, so you can see what you have already read through to quickly navigate to the Unread posts?
A button on the bottom that simply returns you to the top of the page (so you don’t have to scroll back up to get to the thread navigation pane).

THIS^
Its really hard to tell which posts you havent read on a thread, especially when it starts getting longer, and I dont want to read what Ive already read.
Also…
The “Notify me of follow-up replies via email” button, IDK about anyone else, but the last thing I need is more emails.-

With the reply feature it can make it very difficult to know what you have already read & haven’t. A highlight of the new posts that haven’t been read, like on SB nation, would be awesome.

It would be nice if the bbpress plugin website had picture examples of their plugins.
What about this one?

For those that like a 1 forum view instead of subforums, what about modifying the “recent posts” to show more than the 10 or so threads that it shows currently? Not sure if that would satisfy everyone or not.

That first example is probably the best one, because we have indented threads and all. Sounds very similar to the SBNation boards functionality.
As it stands right now – I find scanning the “Activity” tab with the filter set to “replies” is pretty effective keeping up with recent posts.

Great idea @hockeybeard I tried that and it’s great.
I just installed a test of the unread posts plugin. Some report it is buggy so let’s see what happens.

Looks like it’s working so far. This one turned green when you replied. It’s a little hard to tell the difference between the green and gray.

Its indicating which topic has unread posts – but I was hoping to have something where the actual posts within the thread were indicated as unread, to help you quickly navigate through a thread to the unread ones.

I’ve clicked the UteHub logo probably 20 times thinking it’s going to take me to the frontpage each time. Can you make that a link to the frontpage too?
Also, what about site & user stats – who is online, when did they join, how many posts
see example of stats below:

My suggestions would be threaded view. Notifications within the site that notify when someone replies to your post and allows you to click right to it. Good moderation to keep things civil and SFW for the most part.

HockeybeardParticipant
On my top pane, there is a notification icon next to my username:
Right now its at 0, but when i get replies or request to ‘follow’ a thread, it posts the replies there and I can click through to them.

Is there a place where I can see replies to my posts? It doesn’t seem to show up in the “notifications” section of my profile page.

See my response to Virginia Ute.
There should be a notification drop down to the left of your username on the top pane. That has replies to your posts there.

Maybe it is has been suggested but I would like a preview option before your post goes live.

Some ideas I was thinking of this morning (not sure if these have been mentioned yet in other threads):
Ute Fans Blog: My suggestion here would be to focus on themed blogs vs. “my random genius thoughts” blogs. So the blogs on this site would be targeted to specific topics, and members who are well-suited or willing to take on these topics could take hold of them. Some suggestions include: “This week in U of U school/athletics/football history”, “Getting to know the Utah basketball team”, “Weekly Utah Gymnastics round-up”, “Football Recruiting News”, etc. There could be a categorized index of these blogs so users could zero in on the ones that interest them most.
News Feed: A place where all Utah-related news stories, tweets, etc. from various media outlets could be centrally located for easy access by the community. With all of our diverse users, I can imagine tons of content being discovered and included here.
Daily/Weekly Photo Caption Contest: This would be a fun distraction. The photos don’t even necessarily have to be Ute-related.
Trivia: This could be an area where people could share trivia about Utah sports, the university, the state of Utah, or the world in general.
Polls: Multiple polls active at one time, rather than just the one, although perhaps there could be a ‘feature poll’ on the front page. Someone should be in control of shutting down polls that have reached the end of their shelf life.
List: Some sort of list-creating mechanism where people could rank, for example, their favorite Ute football games historically, their favorite Utah basketball players, etc.
Statistics Page: An area where users can pull up current and historical U of U athletics statistics.
I think the idea should be to make this website truly interactive and diverse, so it becomes much more than just a message board/chat room. It should be a place where users can spend an hour a day getting fully immersed in everything related to Utah athletics. Ideally, it becomes a place where there are enough applications available that every fan can participate and find their niche as a useful contributor. That would be my dream for this site.

Here’s my big suggestion. When I scroll down through all the posts, I’d like the navigation option at the bottom of the thread like the one at the top so I don’t have to scroll back up to navigate. I’m talking about the one like this:
Home > Ute Hub Site > Comments and Suggestions
On further thought, any of the navigation links would be nice, even the main ones.

That’s not a bad idea and probably could be done fairly easily.

I installed a plugin to mark posts as read, but as far as I can tell it isn’t terribly accurate and only covers forums, not individual posts.
I do have stats modules I could show.
