Please discuss with me ways to improve the site. With the site’s growth (IOS app now at over 5K users!) it has become obvious that I need to make some changes to alleviate the traffic problems which have brought the site down during some big events recently, like the Pac-12 championship game and last night’s awesome Kentucky win. I have some ideas how to fix those issues, some involve changing the layout of the home page to eliminate the huge discussion threads, only showing the threads if the user opens them. This would help I think. But I may need to look at a whole new hardware infrastructure that’s scalable, rather than my supposedly powerful single dedicated server. Something like AWS, which can adapt to the bigger demands. Unfortunatley that stuff is far more expensive.
I would also like to look at other improvements, new features, and ways to help the site improve, grow and get even better. Please let me know your thoughts!

I don’t know what your relationship is with the Utefans mods, but their site seemed to handle the traffic pretty well last night. It might at least be worth a discussion on the technical side to see what they are doing.

Hey Tony, love this site. I have noticed that lately I’m unable to post anything from the app (android) but it lets me compose things, just wont submit anything unless I’m on laptop or desktop.
Besides that, possible idea to keep from crashing during big events is just always have some kind of open chat room feature, like you did for football games, but always keep open. Then encourage posters to use that during events like last night instead of treating posts/threads like an in game chat like a lot people do with their one line and gif type posts.
Thanks for creating such a great place to connect. When we were back in Texas and last couple years now in Vegas, its been good to still feel a part of our great Ute community.

TexUte: The chat room is open 24/7. I actually posted to join chat last night but killed that post when I found that the chat provider was having service problems.
On the android issue I’d like to get some details from you as to what actually happens.
72: I don’t think they would want to help this site in any fashion. Besides I don’t think they have a similar setup, especially with this site having to support all the traffic via the iOS and Android apps.

For some reason some of my unread posts don’t show up as unread. Minor quibble…

I would still like a lot more input on this topic!

Maybe the ability to post gifs instead of just text?

Ah. I stand corrected. Well-chosen gif.
On the website, there are options to dislike something but I don’t see the option to like the comment. I can on a mobile but not on a laptop. Not sure if it’s just me.
Also, when I hover over the person icon with the minus sign in the bottom right corner (right next to the time stamp), it doesn’t specify what that button does. I’ve accidentally blocked or deleted some people because of this and am not sure how to correct it.
Can we not copy pics into the comments box, only link to the image url?
We don’t need to see the # to the right of the replies, do we? That’d be an easy cleanup I think right?

THANKS for the input. You should see thumbs up/down for each topic and comment. What browser/OS are you using? Can you post a screen shot?

I’m using Windows 10, Firefox.
I’m trying to post a screen shot but the only images I can add are ones with a URL link. I’d make that as an improvement if possible to copy images outside of having a URL.

Image upload (rather than supplying a link) would be a very costly feature for me to ask as it would allow users to eat up my server’s hard drive space. So for now we can only allow linking to existing images.
I’m going to send you an email request to send me the screen shots.
