ParticipantAccording to Pete Thamel
Sources: University of Utah is targeting veteran NBA executive Wes Wilcox to be the school’s men’s basketball general manager. Wilcox is the assistant GM in Sacramento, and his move marks the highest-ranking sitting NBA front office member to take a college front office job. Wilcox is the former general manager of the Atlanta Hawks from 2015-17 and assistant GM there from 2012-15. He’s also been the director of player personnel in Cleveland amid his nearly two decades of work in the NBA.

ParticipantIt sure seems Utah is going all-in on getting folks with NBA credentials.
It sounds like that is the correct way to go, given the current climate of collegiate athletics.
Which makes it even more surprising they haven’t announced Andre Miller yet.

ParticipantAlex mentioned that he would go in this direction in his introductory press conference.

ParticipantMight be Andre and team are still in discussion. May also be Andre wants to complete his season before announcing anything so as not to distract his team.

ParticipantG-league season ends March 29th. If anything is going to happen I’d expect it to be announced next week.

ParticipantFirst, I love this potential GM hire!
Second, we need to be patient in hires. Alex is going to take his time to make the best hires for the long run. This is an ultra marathon not a sprint.
Everything I’m hearing points to Andre Miller joining the staff…timing is everything.

ParticipantIF true, this would be a home-run hire…We’re absolutely 100% serious about turning things around & competing for championships….It’s about freaking time….Lots of schools win big in BOTH football/basketball….We should be no different….GO UTES!!

Participantinterested to know if the school and/or boosters/donors have the $$$ or unlimited NIL to bring in top notch staff and talented players and won’t go into debt or bankruptcy because of it.
i’m curious to know since it seems or appears the football program didn’t compete or match NIL offers for players that left, and was it because they didn’t think the players were worth keeping, or they just didn’t have the $$$ to match any offers, or a little bit of both

ParticipantI can’t imagine Utah going this hard on a build up for the program if they aren’t gonna improve their NIL situation much. It would be a total waste of time and resources.
So I think they have to have assurances from boosters/donors.

ParticipantLooks as if they’re finalizing a deal from what I’ve seen.
The funding has to be in place for any of this to be going down….Exciting times!!

ParticipantAnd it’s official. Wes is Alex’s second hire. And I will be the GM, whatever duties that role that means for college bball. Sure, it’s still being defined and learning/changing all what it entails.
Wes Wilcox hired
