I have time to watch one of the two bowl games today, but probably not both. Explain to me which one I should watch:
Famous Idaho Potato Bowl – Kent State vs. Wyoming; 3:30p ET on ESPN
Tropical Smoothie Café Frisco Bowl – UTSA vs. San Diego State; 7:30p ET on ESPN
I caught a little bit of the Tulsa-Old Dominion game yesterday. It was the kind of game where Old Dominion couldn’t seem to do anything on offense, but somehow still had a chance to make it close in the fourth quarter. Old Dominion should have finally scored a touchdown to make it a six-point game early in the fourth quarter, but the receiver had the ball punched out of his hands at about the five yard line, and it rolled through the end zone and out of bounds for a touchback. Tulsa scored a TD on its next drive and that’s all I had time to watch.
They played the game at Coastal Carolina’s stadium, which apparently has a turquiose-colored field. These colorful fields (like they also have in Boise and Eastern Washington) are a terrific way to ensure your school always feels like a second-tier program. And they look especially terrible on TV when the game is played at night . . . in case that’s the look you’re going for.
