Anyone’s thoughts on our number 2 .. Is Isaac having surgery this year ? If so Will Brandon Rose or Sam Huard be enough If Cam goes down .. This and the RB position has me the most concerned for the season. Can’t go through another offensive season like last. I am still having pig farmer nightmares.

I think the pecking order should go: Wilson, Huard, Rose. And if Wilson gets his surgery (which I haven’t heard anything to suggest he’s going to) then I would say #2 is Huard and #3 Rose and #4 Wilson (since it’s the type of surgery that he’d still be back late in the season, I believe).

Sounds like surgery for Isaac is very unlikely right now, if he even does it at all. I think best case for Utah is that Huard can be the number two guy, but Isaac is the wild card it appears. Does he continue to come along and end up being the best backup option even this year.
I think fall camp will be very telling where all three are and who sticks around past this season (more so referring to Rose).

Rose and Huard will be 2 and 2A, coach speak for “we need to keep you both here, so please don’t transfer because we designated one of you as 3rd string.” Wilson will redshirt.
If Cam goes down, I think we see Huard come in as the true backup, but Rose will be given a shot to prove himself as well. Unless Huard lights it up, then Rose will only see mop up duty.

I will support whoever the backup is. However, I hope it is Wilson. I think he is our future.
I think Wilson wants to earn the backup role. Then he may look to have his surgery in December or January. If he is the backup this season – he would be the favorite to start in 2025 if Rising doesn’t return.

I can’t believe Rising can play an 8th season. But he’s likely going to make more in NIL than as an UDFA. I just don’t see his injury history getting him drafted, even if he has a stellar year. That would just be insane. I love Rising and he’s a great college player. I think it would be great for 2025 continuity (possibly if they win the Big 12, go to playoffs, Whit retires, etc.), but I also kind of want to move on to Wilson, Huard, or Rose and the next era. I know it’s ‘be careful what you wish for’.

i don’t see why not.
especially if Wilson ends up redshirting. -

One day, you’ll see 30 year Olds playing CFB. When they become employees of the school, they won’t need to go to class or even enroll if they don’t want to. Fringe NFL guys will make more in college than they will in the NFL, so they’ll stay. They may even try the NFL out, not make it, and come back. Times are changing.

I saw a tweet that said Utah’s compliance dept looked into it and found Cam wouldn’t actually be eligible for another year. I thought it was from Bartle but don’t feel like searching for it. Just passing this along fwiw.

2018 – DNP (redshirt)
2019 – DNP due to transfer rules. NCAA reversed the rule so does not count against his clock
2020 – Free covid year
2021 – Redshirt Freshman
2022 – Redshirt Sophomore
2023 – DNP as a Redshirt Junior
2024 – Redshirt SeniorHe could apply for a medical to replace the lost 2023 season but I believe he has to exhaust his eligibility first unless that rule has changed also.

If you think Wilson is the future, he’s the backup.
I know the transfers might have changed things, but most round 1/2 QB’s start at some point in their freshmen years.
So, you let Huard and Wilson battle for #2 and the winner is the backup.
