Do you feel like you taste (like the literal sense of tasting things with your mouth) has changed as you’ve aged?

I was just eating some Big Chewy Nerds (great candy BTW, but Nerds Clusters are the GOAT), and I realized that I liked the lemon and Orange flavors the best. I have found this to be true with Skittles and Starburst as well. I like the lighter/brighter flavors that don’t seem to be quite as heavy on the sugary taste (though I’m sure the sugar content is the same)… When I was a kid, I didn’t like Lemon and Orang flavored candy for that exact reason.

I’m curious if anyone else has had similar experiences.

Absolutely. I do not enjoy sweet anything in my old age, especially sweet beer.

Definately.  I used to love swedish fish and now can’t bear them at all.  Sweet things fade as you age.  All flavors do.

Tastes change as you age. Certain foods I couldn’t stand in my youth (like pineapple) are now among my favorites, and vice versa.

Also, I got COVID a year ago. Wasn’t a particularly bad case – put me down for just a few days – but I did completely lose my sense of taste and smell while I had it. When my senses came back, I noticed nothing tasted as strong as it did before and it’s still that way. It’s weird…I can taste things and they taste normal, I just don’t taste them as much. I have to put a lot more seasoning and flavoring on my food to make it taste the same as it did before I had COVID.

I have heard that tastes change, roughly every seven years. Not sure if that’s really true or not but there you go.

I wish my taste buds would not be so strong.  I’m an old guy and unfortunately, I still love food and eat too much.  There aren’t many things I don’t like other than hot spicy foods and red beets.

I tend to like/dislike what I have for a long time but my wife’s tastes keep changing.  Example she used to always love Diet Coke, but now finds it has a metallic taste (poured out of the bottle, not a can)

I’ve realized as time passes I appreciate even more the taste of sweet success of the Ute football program…so there’s that 😀.

Like others have said, I don’t like sweet things like I did as a kid. Also, I used to hate green olives and mushrooms. Now I love them. I also used to love black olives, but now they’re just ok.

As I have gotten older, most things don’t taste as good to me as they did when I was younger. I think the meds I take now are part of the cause.

I especially don’t enjoy beef, like a good steak, the same as before. I can’t sit down to a full steak dinner and enjoy eating it all. I look forward to dessert and other sweets more than before.

Not a good recipe for healthy eating.
