ParticipantI’m starting to get a little concerned that we currently only have 4 commits for 2017, and two of which are twins that don’t hold any other D-1 offers, and their hudl highlights were not overly impressive. I’m surprised after the past two years and positive momentum to start the season we haven’t seen a few more commits coming in. It sounds like we’re getting some highly recruited kids to visit, but not getting anyone to pull the trigger. Is there anyone plugged into the recruiting world that knows why this is? I know it’s stupid to analyze recruiting classes until you get closer to signing day, but is this concerning to anyone else?

ParticipantThe problem with our recruiting is that we only have like 8 scholarships for the next class. Between return missionaries and a bunch of push forwards (Nacua, Blackmon, etc) our class is already almost full.
So, because of that, we have to be SUPER selective. And we want to land some more 4 star kids, and those kids take longer to commit. So, normally, when we are going to sign 20+ kids, we’d have a bunch of recruits but 8-10 spots open for the top prospects…
Well, we just don’t have the bottom of this class because it is already full. So, don’t sweat it right now. If we keep winning, our class will be better than ever. But, this class will be skewed to look poorer than it is due to the push forward guys.
For example, Samson Nacua. He had some grade issues when his dad passed away. I’ve been told he was the best WR prospect in Utah last year (better than Fehoko). But, due to grade issues, many schools stayed away from him. He is technically in the class of 2017.
Weird, but this class will be different than most due to the missionaries and push forwards. But don’t sweat it. It’s a fine class.

ParticipantThat makes sense. I do seem to remember a lot of push forwards last year.
That’s an interesting take on Samson. I saw him and Fehoko play, and can’t say I agree, but hopefully he develops.

ParticipantSorry Sweetness do not like to call people out, however Utes have double the number of scholarships available in 2017 class that you referenced. That is adjusting for greyshirts Blackman, Nacua, & Shyne. It is clear the coaches are raising the bar on new recruit opportunities.Keep winning and the class will into place.
