Looks like old Uncle Utah was right.
Dude is fighting to start down there. He’d be third in our depth chart, at best.
-
FtheYParticipant
I admit defeat.
-
UteThunderParticipant
Their depth chart has him listed as the number 1 TE.
And until we start using our TEs as real weapons on a regular basis, I won’t buy that a BYU starting TE wouldn’t start for us. They use their TEs as weapons. We almost never do which tells me our TEs aren’t better than theirs.
-
ironman1315Participant
1a with Holker being 1b. Dude lost what should have been the only clear-cut starting spot and now it’s up in the air.
-
UteThunderParticipant
Maybe.
Or, or . . . They are going to run a lot of two TE sets.
And, even if that’s not the case, it’s not like having someone come along who is as good or better than you means that you suddenly aren’t good. Was Troy Williams suddenly a bad QB because a younger player overtook him?
-
ironman1315Participant
By all accounts, he had an awful camp.
-
UteThunderParticipant
An awful camp you say? And he is still listed as the starter? Kid must be a legit talent then, no?
We’ll get a pretty good idea of how good or overrated he is over the next 6 weeks.
-
ironman1315Participant
No. It means he’s not that good.
-
UteThunderParticipant
Okay, sure. 50 catches for 500 yards. And that was with HORRIBLE QB play. He must be terrible.
-
EagleMountainUteParticipant
I wouldn’t mind having some of that from our TEs
-
ironman1315Participant
Too bad he couldn’t be used in short yardage situations for a good sneak attack pass play over the middle to beat a run blitz, because, again, he can’t block.

EagleMountainUteParticipant
ARods the playcaller??? Pfft they won’t use a TE. 😉
Also wrong category.
-
UteThunderParticipant
Ha! You make an excellent point. I guess we won’t know how good he is.

UtahParticipant
Or, maybe just maybe, I was right. He can’t block.
Hes a big, slow Kenneth Scott…but worse. Scott could block.
-
UteThunderParticipant
When was Scott ever asked to block on the line?
Also, comparing him to KS isn’t a winning position for you. Bushman’s FRESHMAN stat line is almost identical to Scott’s best years as a JUNIOR and SENIOR. You don’t think Bushman will improve on his Freshman year?
-
ironman1315Participant
TE job #1 is blocking. He can’t block good.
-
CincyUteParticipant
Oh boy, are you going to look silly when the experts at 1280 name Bushman as a top 5 player in the state.
I’m being sarcastic, obviously.
(…But I’m not kidding about the 60 in 60 thing. They’re really going to put him in the top 5).
-
-
UtahParticipant
Good lord man, you are gonna die on this vine.
I compared him to Kenneth Scott because Bushman is big, slow and can catch well. That is all. He is a slow WR in a TE’s body.
And, you mention his stats. So, are you going to tell me that Gunner Romney is a better WR than Solomon Enis because Romney had better stats as a SR?
Come on man. I’ll make is super, duper simple for you:
If Bushman was as good as you think he is, he wouldn’t be listed as a co-starter with a true freshman down at BYU.
-
ProudUteParticipant
He had some very good stats on a horrible team. That does say something. Maybe he was/is a bad blocker. I just don’t know. What I do know is that he was the one guy on that team who could get open last year. Would he start for the Utes? Who knows. We don’t utilize our tight ends as receivers.
Gloating doesn’t become you!!!
-
ironman1315Participant
He can’t block. McBride talked about this. He noticed that he was only put in on passing plays and that telegraphed to the defense what was going to happen.
-
-
UteThunderParticipant
There are too many factors to consider to make a fair comparison of high school stats. Level of competition, supporting cast, QB talent, coaching, etc. etc. Romney may end up being better than Solomon, I have no idea. We’ll have to wait and see.
I don’t get your reasoning that Bushman can’t be good because a Freshman is challenging him for playing time. Using that logic, the Alabama QB must not be very good because he was replaced at halftime by a Freshman who led them to a comeback victory. Bushman can still be a very good TE and have another TE who is also very good come along and challenge for his spot. In other words, someone else being good doesn’t automatically make Bushman bad.
Like I said, we’ll see if you are right or not over the next several weeks.

It’s so easy to link your URL. Just click the little chain looking thing. I’m amazed by how many people don’t know how to do this or are too lazy. I’m not going to copy and past your URL if you were to lazy to do it yourself.
