Ritchie as a Punter?

  Why not put an athlete back there to keep teams at the LOS longer in some situations with the option to legitmately run or throw a pass? Have to believe Ritchie would be no worse punting than what we saw this year. Special teams needs a bit of an overhaul next year.

    Lennon is a decent punter, but we’ve been so spoiled it feels worse than it really is. I expect he’ll improve.

      I thought he was supposed to be better than Wish or Hackett.
      Certainly didn’t punt as often as either of them.

    Lennon’s stats: 39.7 yds per punt good for 138th best in college football (source Espn stats).

      Where was his average punt from. Based solely on memory we had more punts from our 40 to the 50 than usual.

    Lennon had a beautiful punt during the CO game that had Simpkins fielded it correctly, would have put them at the 2 or 3 yard line.

  Slightly more than last year, Lennon had 18 “Pin Deep” opportunities this year (punts from our own 41 and closer) and was at 95.1% Target Distance Punted (Target being the 10 yard line.) Last year Wishnowsky had 14 such punts with a 96.3% TDP. Big difference which shows the efficiency of our offense this year, is the amount of “open field” punts from our 40 and further. Wish had 45 punts, 46 yards per punt. Lennon this year – only 18 punts for 42.5 yds per punt. Basically Lennon doesn’t kick it as far, but he’s pretty good at pinning teams deep.
