Since I’m just a fan, how do you feel about Notre Dame’s talking about not participating in the CFP if they get assigned to the Rose Bowl?
This is a year unlike any other we’ve witnessed in College Football.
You’ve got the history and pageantry of the Rose Bowl, vs the California politicians, and the third part are those teams who will be selected to play in the CFP?
Will LA county concede and allow players families to attend the Rose Bowl?
There are a ton of questions and most if not all have very grey answers?
Is it the right decision for the Rose Bowl to host a CFP game if spectators are not allowed?
Will the Rose Bowl be a bit tarnished if it is “moved” to another location?
Will the Rose Bowl lose some of its panache due to this year’s situation?
Would you play if you qualified for the CFP and your parents/family couldn’t attend? But at the other site families are allowed?
In my view, the politicians have to make concessions here. If not the Rose Bowl, the Granddaddy of them all, would be set back. They are already going to lose a ton of revenue due to COVID, but this would make it worse. No other bowls are going to swap for the CFP next year when we’ll most likely be back to some semblance of normal life, and revenue.
I don’t blame the players/teams/coaches going public with their concerns. Sadly I think the Pac-12 as a whole and by extension the Rose Bowl is in dire need of some positive karma. Looking at the projections even if USC were to beat Oregon by 70 I doubt they’d get a CFP invite. That hurts. The most likely scenario is two ACC teams, Ohio State, and Alabama. I’d love to see all the favorites lose, because even in that scenario USC would likely be left out for aTm, Iowa State, Florida, and possibly a few others. Cincinnati has a better shot at the CFP right now than USC. That doesn’t bode well for the Pac-12. Larry Scott, you need to at least try to earn your paycheck and go to bat for USC in that scenario.

Considering that both LA and Ventuya counties have 0% ICU beds available, I don’t think the politicians will feel any need to make concessions

Bama is shellacking whoever the #4 team is. Personally the committee should put Cincy in just to put an end to the G5 playoff conversation.

It’s not unprecedented to have a Rose Bowl outside of California. In 1942, it was played in North Carolina due to fear of another attack from Japan on the west coast.
I think it’s safe to say the 4 playoff teams are all going to be from the SEC, ACC, and probably the Big10. In this year, it makes zero sense to send two teams accross the country to play in front of nobody regardless of the current situation in California.
I think all the bowl games should have just been home games this year for the higher ranked team or a neutral site close to both schools. There’s nothing traditional about this year, just go full out to make things safe and friendly for everyone involved.
