I don’t see anyone on here predicting Utah’s death as a program. What I do see is a lot of fans frustrated by the fact that this past year we had arguably more talent on our team than we’ve ever had, yet we endured one of our worst seasons in the past few decades. Moreover, we’re frustrated by the fact that there is a pretty easy solution to our problems, but that solution requires Whittingham recognizing it’s time to hang it up, which he’s not going to do. So we come here to vent. I still believe in Utah football, but I no longer believe in Whittingham.

I think every Ute fan has his/her own opinion. As for me, I am very frustrated about the last 16 months. I could make a long list of things that upset me that have nothing to do with wins or losses.

I love what Whitt did for our program, but IMO it is time for him to step down and turn things over to his student, Morgan Scalley. But, I am am just one person with my opinion. I know that there are others who feel differently and I respect that.

        Go Utes!!!

Sorry, this was meant to be a response to rsimmons.

I think there’s a lot of angst as the landscape is changing rapidly in CFB and the program really needs solid leadership now more than ever.

Its clear Whitt’s a legend, just his coaching style doesn’t work as well with today’s NIL/Portal era. Scalley seems to be a good fit for the new era and playbooks need to be learned in 3 months, not 3 years. We had 2 years to adapt and improvise and didn’t, and the results showed. I think that’s why many are wanting to move on to MS sooner rather than later. The new OC seems like a good add, so Im not as anxious for change as I was a week ago–but its still time.

My only request is a tad more transparency up on the hill. Heck we still have no official word on Whitt’s official status–Im sure recruits and insiders know, we can all assume, but part of leading the program is being transparent–obviously not to the extent of giving out game plans but maybe reassuring the fans to some degree. I mean fans are a large part of the program–if we don’t show up/financially support, there is no program. So no sense in leaving us in the dark this much

I wish people on here were generally more optimistic about things. I feel like most people (or at least the loudest voices) tend to be chronically half glass empty. And although I like to have all perspectives to inform my own perspective, I wish there was a little more hopeful commentary here. It’s good to have the reality checks and sometimes reality isn’t optimistic but indeed pessimistic. And I understand wanting a place to vent about disappointments and frustrations (of which we’ve experienced a lot in the last 1-2 years). Anyway, I’m just saying that I wish there was a bit more optimism and glass half full type of commentary on here b/c that’s what uplifts me personally and gets me excited about the Utes.

I’m neither glass half empty or full. I just want to know why you gave me such a big glass if you weren’t going to fill the damn thing up in the first place

Haha, very fair point. I fully accept that others (including you) were right (and I was wrong) earlier in the season when they were pessimistic (and I was more optimistic). I did not see us going on such a grueling and painful losing streak. And I do think Whitt deserves criticism after the last two seasons.

Part of what I’m saying here though is that I think it’d be more enjoyable to be a fan (and more enjoyable for me on Ute Hub) if we could have some more optimism and hopeful commentary during those/these dark times. It helps me get through them! I don’t mind the disgruntled venting about disappointments and frustrations. I am super disgruntled at times as well, but after a while I just want to enjoy fanhood again (it’s not fun for me to just be bummed out all the time and talk about only negative things). I recognize everybody moves on from disappointment and frustration at different speeds. Anyway, just voicing some honest thoughts on my perspective. I just think we could all generally be a little more optimistic than we’ve been recently.

What do you think about what I wrote the other day??? My thread was titled something like: “I don’t want to ahead of my skis, but…” I think we have some reasons to be glass half full fans right now! I hope I’m not wrong when the transfer portal opens up Monday…

There’s plenty of room for optimism and the farther we get from game 12 of the 2024 season, the more optimistic this place will get. By next August you’ll be begging for little ole Eeyore to get the red kool-aid out of your sippy cup 🙂 I kid

Right now, the rhetoric is worse than normal for this time of year. It’s only been a week since the worst season in 12 years. The first major staff change since Ludwig came back at the end of 2018. And there isn’t a bowl game to distract people from kids going into the portal. So it will take a little longer than normal for people to get back to all positive all the time.

I get no joy out of being right about potential problem areas. I just try to identify what I think is the most likely outcome and set my expectations accordingly. But I would be ecstatic to be proven wrong on the good side like I was in 2019. And I figure that if I’m p**sing off the PosiUtes and NegaUtes equally, I’m probably in the sweet spot as far as my posts go.

True I agree, BUT many of this could have been avoided, and IMO, self-inflicted. Whitt’s love affair with 7-year starter Rising and NIL freshman Wilson over other QBs was an issue detrimental to their team success. The team is not always one person (Rising or Wilson), but a team effort and it caused a rift that should have never happened with a tenured 20 year head coach. Whittingham, the past two years, has been his own worse enemy and can’t get out of his own way sometimes. Most fans knows he wants to win another CC and CFP berth, but don’t think his vision getting their is going to happen as the very conservative and playing ‘not to lose’ coaching approach fails him in the end.

To be fair to Wilson, none of the other QBs had much chance to showcase themselves. Chances are they would have looked worse in their second, third, and fourth straight start after teams discovered their tendencies and weaknesses.

Maybe there should be a separate page on Ute hub called the red goggles zone. It could be a safe space where no negativity could be spoken about the team. Only optimism of national championships every year.
