Title says it all. Had a few 10+ point leads in both halves, but Kansas never gave up and tied the game several times. Nice upset win for Men’s basketball.

Also, congrats to Gabe Madsen on being the Utes all-time leaders in 3 Point makes.

Lovering made life hard for Dickinson. Good team win!

Speaking of Lovering, how is it possible to be that bad at free throws? He looks like he’s never actually shot one before when he’s at the line. Does Smith just not care and make Lovering or the team practice them?

Here is the thing Lovering is who lovering is going to be at this point. You could make him shoot 1000 FT and he is only going to make 400 on a good day. It’s rough watching him at the Freethrow line. 1-9 today just makes me sick

I know it’s not true but it looks like he doesn’t care. Ausar has become very deliberate and has improved. Lovering just throws it up with no concentration.

Kansas never led in the game while Utah had bright spots. To begin the year if I could see two wins I would have picked the Y and Kansas who was #1 for the first month of the season. Sadly, if we just had Carlson or a 5 that can score we would be just fine this year. Thankfully, we were treated to a very entertaining game tonight. Lovering was awful at the FT line but did undress the Kansas center on D, even with some questionable fouls. The many Kansas fans can stay the weekend and find a better chance in Provo Tuesday. Even the halftime was entertaining.

I think today I’m going to avoid my usual criticizing and just enjoy the win. There are obviously areas where we can still improve, but there are no perfectly executing teams in college BB. We just beat the #17 team in the country! And it was a fun game – very entertaining. Kudos to the Kansas fans – they travel well. And they’re really into their team, yet not super douchey. I sat next to an old farmer and his wife from Kansas and they were pleasant seatmates. I hope they blow out BYU-Provo Campus.

      Go Utes!

Yes I agree. The gentleman that sat in front of us were knowledgeable of the game and plesant. They said good game as they left with a minute and a half remaining. Their fans were loud. It was the only thing they had in common with TDS fans. Rock Chalk Jhawk, roll the cougars.

I kind of blew this game off because I wanted to watch the USA vs Canada hockey game and thought that Utah would have a hard time versus Kansas. I’m not questioning that decision since the hockey game was extremely entertaining and I was able to catch Utah’s second half on TV. The game kind of reminded me of the Arizona game at the JHC during the 2022-23 season, when Utah, surprisingly, handled a highly ranked Arizona team with little to no problem. I’ll take the win, but where would this team be if they could hit 70-75 percent of their free throws? Certainly, at least two wins better, and at 16-9 and 8-6 in conference, well that record would certainly have you looking okay for a spot at the Dance.

Missed attending due to a family commitment up north that got me home well after midnight and watched the tape this morning.

Great win for the team. Other than Lovering (who must be given credit for hard nosed defense), the team was 16-19 from the charity stripe and as a team we had just 7 turnovers against an aggressive defensive team.

KUDOS to the entire team. Will be there tomorrow night.

Yep, unlike the last games (and most of their losses), the rebounding was great, and they didn’t have excessive turnovers against the pressure defense. It was the key to the win, IMO.

I’ll be there on Monday as well. Hope that the team doesn’t have a letdown playing an unimpressive KSU team.

Pretty much the FT issue is Lovering, not so much the team. It is several games now that others are more than happy to foul him to try to come back. They are more than willing to not guard him at all on the outside giving him a 5 on 4 to try to find a pass since he does not shoot much from the outside. The dilemma is he is our best inside defender which is quite a problem when others have a scoring 5. We needed Keller to be able to handle more minutes but that didn’t develop. Our relief is subbing a forward for Lovering.

Down the stretch only UofA on the road is out of reach. Possibly, we have a chance to move up. Outside the top 4 we need to find a way to win as many as possible thru the conference tournament. Hopeful with bias because we are only 2 games out of 5th place.

Keller is flat out awful and should be getting zero minutes. I liked Lohner coming off the bench to spell Lovering. He’s not tall enough to guard a true center (like that corn-fed mule Kansas had) but he’s got heft and knows how to throw it around. That’s good enough for a backup. Mass kicks ass, after all.

Love it! I’ll add it to my lexicon.

Not just Lovering. Ausar (57%) leads the team in FTAs (26% of the team’s FTAs) and has almost twice as many FTAs as Lovering. Ausar and Lovering account for 40% of FTAs and are shooting a combined 49%. The entire frontcourt is shooting a combined 53% with only Dawes (70%) shooting over 63%.

I have said this many times before, the frontcourt is severely underskilled offensively. If Lovering, Ausar, Wahlin could reliably make a 5-ft baby hook, we would be averaging 8+ ppg more. Wahlin had multiple mismatches against guards off defensive switches where he backed the smaller player down into the paint, but then wasn’t able to create or make a shot.
