Participant54-36 with 14minutes to go in the game.

ParticipantHow about Keanu Dawes, three dunks in a row. Wahlin looking good on offense as well.

ParticipantIt helps when your opponent sucks wholesale ass. But I’ll take it!

Utah#1
ParticipantExactly! When the last three games they’ve been blown out in the hunty and on the road.

ParticipantI will take the win! They played well.

ParticipantAh, but Utah does too. So this was a pleasant surprise.

ParticipantYeah, this is one of the 4-5 conference wins I have penciled in. Going into this game, Oklahoma State, though they already had one conference win, looked like the team most likely to lose to Utah. I really don’t like Utah’s chances in their next game @ TCU (who beat BYU today as well) on Wednesday and we’ll see what happens next Saturday versus BYU.

ParticipantAgree MU. 5 conference wins from here on out should be considered a success. Can’t believe that’s how far the program has fallen. The athletic department has systemic issues no one really wants to address. As a fan, I am ready for some new, forward thinking leadership. Time for KW, Harlan, and Smith to move on in 2025 for a fresh start in 2026. Beginning to think maybe Randall is part of the problem as well. In my 30 years of being a Utah fan going back to days as a student, I have never seen both men’s BB and football collectively be this bad together.

ParticipantI hear ya. But I’m slightly optimistic that Utah changed its lineup and had a better outcome. It was a tall lineup at 6’6, 6’9, 6’10, 6’8 and 7’1. Madsen, Shark, Wahlin, Auser, Lovering. I’m curious if they’ll use this lineup going forward.
This taller lineup allowed for more bigs to sub off the bench like Dawson and Keller who both played solid minutes in my opinion. I’d rather have Dawson in the game than Hunter Erickson.

ParticipantWhat happened to our free-throw shooting? It was surprising uncharacteristic.

ParticipantAusar was much more deliberate in his free throws. When we play teams more to our level we look good. It was fun watching. Decent crowd also.

ParticipantNot to take away from the win (any conference win is miraculous for us at this point) but there were still some glaring issues in that game that would’ve caused us to lose against a team who isn’t a horrible shot making team. They killed us on the offensive glass (18-6 in O REB) and we also did not win the turnover battle (we never do). We were just fortunate that they were so bad on offense, and we had a couple guys step up that hadn’t done much all year. So I’m going to stop short at saying we’ve turned some corner.

ParticipantWhen Dawes has played he has done well. Wahlin got the start he must have been good in practice.

ParticipantDawes 16pt/9reb. His role has been so confounding. First six games he averaged 12pt/8reb in 20 min, which is highly productive. Then he basically rode bench for the next six games, including two DNP’s. 11pt/5reb vs TT, only 2 min vs ISU, then this great game. He’s productive when he plays. Why wasn’t he playing in that six-game stretch? He’s literally our only player that has P4 size and athleticism.

ParticipantI think this coach has his favorites , which puts you in the dog house for some reason. I not been unable this figure out.

ParticipantMy sons’ had a HS coach that was like that. Very inconsistent rotations, constantly mixing and matching lineups. Certain kids would always start and play lots regardless of productivity while others might be productive one week, then not play the next; while the person that got those minutes were rarely productive. It was very demotivating to a number of the kids because they just never knew where they stood or what to expect. What was worse was that some of the kids that had some talent didn’t develop a solid role within the team because of the inconsistent play while others that had glaring weaknesses soaked up those minutes with nothing to show for it. The result was a very inconsistent and mediocre team.
He turned a number of the kids into real head cases when it came to basketball, and had several good players ready to hang it up. The funny thing is, after ~10 years as a bad HS coach, he now sells himself as a life coach, Warrior Mindset or some non-sense. LOL I considered buying an hour just to make him sit and listen to me tell him what a bad coach he was.

ParticipantMy son had the exact same experience his senior year, last year, at a local high school here in Bountiful, UT. The only difference was that this was a first year head coach. I often wondered if in his pettiness he played my son inconsistently because the coach was a BYU graduate and he knew we are a Ute family. Naaaah, that can’t be it?
