Watching other teams play tonight, they are excited when they make a big play. The teammates celebrate with each other. They are acting like they really care about winning and trying hard to win.

Utah had none of that two games in a row. Especially on defense. It’s sad. Something happened (probably Rising and other injuries) that zapped the teams morale.

I don’t think there’s anything besides a new season next year that brings this team back to life.

It’s gonna take more than a new season to get this team back to the pre-injury Cam. It’s gonna take strong leadership from both coaches and players. Leadership that the coaches and players respect. Cam was that guy for the team, but the appears to have sailed off into the sunset.

It’s a tough situation. Tougher than it’s been for a bit. Utah is a pretender this year and will probably finish 7-5 or 8-4 if we are lucky, but I wouldn’t hold my breath. We are as likely to finish 6-6 as we are 8-4. If we are going to get years where we overachieve, I guess we have to be willing to take years where we underachieve too.

The part that is most difficult to swallow for me is that it’s likely to get worse before it gets better. Next year Cam is gone, along with Kuithe, Singer, Bernard, Filinger, O’Toole, Tafuna, and Reid. Many of our four star guys frankly have been a disappointment or are flat out not ready to play. Most importantly, Whit is likely gone as well which will be a monumental shift. While I think Scalley will ultimately do well it will come with growing pains. It could be 3-4 years before we are relevant again in the way we have come to expect.

Let’s be honest, Cam, Reid and O’toole have been basically ‘gone’ this entire season. I would argue Kuithe has been half gone as well. Bernard, Fillinger and Singer, we will miss.

O’Toole has another year and then could apply for a medical after that. O’Toole definitely hasn’t done enough to move on to the next level yet.

This is true. Although with the transfer portal. Who knows. But this was the year.
