Huard’s a bit of an enigma at this point. Father and Uncle were both stars at UW and made the league. Played at Kennedy Catholic which, along with Eastside Catholic, gets the top talent in the Puget Sound. Finished off the state career passing record during the Covid spring and the next week started Spring ball at UW. Was undersized and got thrown into action too soon for UW’s dumpster fire of 2021.

Had two 4 star receivers to throw to, Junior Alexander and Jabez Tinae, who also haven’t done anything yet at the college level. Alexander went to ASU, then UW and now at Montana State. Tinae still at UW but has no stats in 3 seasons.

Kennedy essentially ran 4 verts every play and let Huard pick his target which, given his pedigree and assumed coaching from a young age, he was able to do well at the HS level. At some point though, the question has to be asked whether Huard’s success was due to having more talented receivers (think Jack Tuttle throwing to Chris Olave) and a scheme that most HS DB’s can’t handle than a true indicator of college QB ability. Not to mention the lack of success Covid era blue chips have had at the college level.

It’ll be interesting to see how much he’s improved getting steady playing time at Cal Poly instead of sitting behind Penix. Huard throws an excellent long ball and if he’s quickened his decision making, could really be a weapon off the bench.
