I don’t think the last second play calling is working any longer. Honestly I think our opponents are using it to their advantage. Several times a game the D-line is looking over to the side of the field when the ball is snapped and quite frankly that is giving the advantage to the O line just in reaction time alone.

There were several big plays as well as the last score by ASU where the defense was still moving around and looking lost. I don’t know if it’s because a few of them didn’t see the play call signaled and it was too noisy to hear Barton relay the call or something else? It seems to me that in the past the alignment would get sent in much earlier and it was on the players to try and read the offense and make adjustments.

I’m not putting that loss on Scalley. Sure, things could have gone better for the D but with a competent offense, giving up 27 points shouldn’t have been a deal breaker. I think it was 7 times inside the ASU 30 and got 19 points out of it.

That being said, whenever I see 9 Utah defenders on the LOS late in a tight game I hide my head under a pillow. Ever since Verdell busted through that formation in the 2019 CCG it’s been a harbinger of defeat and sure enough Skattebo took both times to the woodshed. Might as well just wave the white flag since you only have to beat one guy
