ParticipantAnyone else supposed to sign today? Currently sitting at a composite average of 85.14 on 247 sports, which ranks us 9th in the Pac 12. Woof.

MemberCause of a 2 star punter. Without him we are 6th in average rating.
-
EagleMountainUte
ParticipantHaha 2 star punter that wins Ray Guy every year.
-

Participantlol
Yeah, I’m perfectly fine with that guy. Looks like another one who will be more than capable of getting first downs if need be as well.
-
EagleMountainUte
ParticipantUtah addressing it’s needs this season makes perfect sense. Losing Mosely is going to suck if it happens.

Participant6th in average rating is not bad considering we are going up against 3 programs that recruit at an elite level, and 2 or 3 others that are really close to that level as well.
-
Dwight89
ParticipantWe are not 6th. We are 9th. can’t back out the punter unless you back out everyone else’s punter as well.

ParticipantUSC – Elite
Washington – Elite
Oregon – Elite
UCLA – Should be but isn’t IMO there ATM
Stanford – Not elite but they get 4 and 5 stars pretty regularly. Close to Elite
ASU – they get some elite recruits every year

EagleMountainUte
ParticipantUSC is not doing well this year.
-
chinngiskhaan
Participantand? They are still considered an elite level program when it comes to recruiting. I’m not talking about this year specifically, just recent history.
-
EagleMountainUte
ParticipantAnd!! I just want to point it out. It is fun.

ParticipantEvery other school recruits punters. By that logic you back out everyone else’s punters and their rankings also rise, leaving Utah at 9th. Gotta compare apples to apples.
-
Puget Ute
ParticipantRight, but we have a very small class so that will hurt the overall.
We absolutely reloaded on the OL. Our O Block is going to be OUTSTANDING going forward.
-

ParticipantThat’s a fair point. We have an incredibly small class so far. Will be interesting to see how it plays out. And certainly if you add in the Penn St. transfer it would boost our scores as well.

ParticipantManny Bowen is WAAAAYYYYY better than any LB coming straight out of high school. Maybe by a factor of 10. Stars are irrelevant in his case, and 3 years/31 starts in the Big 10/min of 50+ tackles per year make him a Day 1 starter and frontrunner for 1st Team PAC-12 next year in our system.
I hope our D coaches can turn him into a Bobby Wagner.

ParticipantSmaller class more damage on the rating. Show me the totals of other classes.
It will make me feel better five years from now when they vacate Oregon’s wins.

ParticipantBut do the other schools have punters in this class that are impacting their rankings today? If you want to compare apples to apples, that should be a factor. Schools do not sign punters often, but when they do, the most likely are not highly ranked. So if you are comparing rankings from just the signings today, it is fair to back out punter rankings from the average (or add a 2 star punter to the averages of schools that are not signing a punter) to make a more true ranking.

ParticipantRemembering the CCG I don’t think Petersen signs Kickers.

ParticipantIt is so odd to watch UW and WSU go for it on 4th down every time, unless they are within a 30-35 yd FG. And they still miss most of those.
