So, I hate BYU fans saying Huntley's streak was only because of crud defenses

I’m like, dude’s in that streak Huntley faced teams with an average of 74th ranked pass efficiency. His best game was SC who had an efficiency defense in the mid 50s. Wilson faced an average of 88 (unless you exclude Utah then it’s 98). So and his best game, arguably, was Utah (until you get to the second half then he had something like 40 QBR and a terrible efficiency).

I don’t get the weak defense argument. Middling? Absolutely. Terrible. Uh no, that’d be Wilson.

Haven’t heard much from BYU fans about Huntley and weak defenses but that’s kind of a stupid argument. Even the stats that you laid out don’t tell the whole story. Efficiency ratings that involved G5 conferences aren’t relevant to teams that play better competition in the P5.

For example, a team has a 20 rating playing in the G5 but would likely be in the 80s playing against P5 talent with a G5 roster. Wilson played 2 of his 5 starts against weak, barely G5 talent teams , and still faced weaker comp in terms of pass defense.

If he’s a top 70 QB after his first 4 games I’ll be surprised.

I wish I could find pass efficiency rankings adjusted for strength of opponent (offense and defense) but alas I know not where to find them.

In any case, we all know that our offense has been atrocious at times, anemic at best. Our teams have stayed in games due to our defense and special teams. That’s who we’ve been for the last decade or more.

That said, Huntley is an above-average qb and Moss is exceptional at times. Our O-line, well, another story entirely.

I am excited to see the season play out, be it great highs or geat lows or somewhere in between.
