I agree that he is really good, and I would have liked to see a lifelong Ute fan on the roster, but frankly, I think he would have been 3rd or 4th string had he signed (with Tuttle in the mix this fall as well). I would take Shelley or Huntley over Wilson at this point, and that is not a slight to Wilson. The kid is a gamer, but I don’t think he is better than the guys we have. I think next year, we will see a less competitive game and a QB for the Utes that we would not trade for Wilson (be it Huntley, which I think will be the case, or Shelley).
Also, I think Whitt deserves some major props. It is so hard to follow up a legend. Look at the other schools where Urban was. They had much rockier roads back to relevance (in the case of UF) or just still seem irrelevant (in the case of Bowling Green). Mullen is turning UF around, but a few came in and failed in the mean time. To keep Utah relevant, get it into a P5, and then get to the top of the division, Whitt has done a hell of a job. And he has done it while always having the Spectre of Urban hanging over.

Also, big ups to Siaosi Mariner for coming up big. I am hoping he has a big Sr. year for us.

I don’t want Wilson so much for what he could do for us (though he would give us some very nice depth at QB) but moreso for what that would leave BYU with at QB. That game most likely isn’t even close without Wilson under center for them. If BYU gets things turned around in the next year or two, it will be because of Wilson.

Honestly, I am fine with BYU getting good again as long as they never beat us. Right now, we get nothing from beating them aside from some pride and a little more sway in mutual targets in recruiting (who are getting less and less common).

Great points! Shelley is 3-0 since starting with ZERO interceptions or fumbles. That’s pretty remarkable.

Of all the QBs Utah faced this season he was one of the best just my eyeball. Wilkins punished Utah the most followed by Porn stache Coug. After that I am drawing a blank, Herbert was ok not #1 pick good. Browning got bailed out and only managed 21. Speight got loose on contain, the rest Utah punished most of the game. Third best or fourth best?
I simply want him mostly because I don’t want TDS to have him. With Tuttle running off like a coward adds a little lemon in the eye as well.
Edit:Costello was ok but 100 yard pick six and he let up instead of trying to push JJ out.

Haskins at Ohio State will be the #1 pick. He’s incredible. He just broke all of Drew Brees’ Big 10 records this last weekend.

Herbert was projecting there is all I was saying. I thought he was average against Utah and largely the end of the season.

I heard Herbert has been in and out of concussion protocol from some Oregon fans. It seems like it has really messed with him.

I respectfully disagree. I think Zach Wilson has more natural skills than our QBs. Would he have seen the playing field this year for us? No way. But, this kid looks very good to me. He has good size, can throw and is very mobile. We will see how he progresses. But, I suspect he will end up being the best QB down south since the infamous Max Hall and probably better in the end. But, he will need some athletes around him to succeed.

He has a mince meat schedule coming. His junior year ooofff or if he stays until his senior year.

UtahParticipant
Yeah, he’s going to get pounded at BYU. 6-7 wins a year.

You are totally entitled to that opinion, and Wilson has looked really good. I think if you look at just this game, he looks very good, but he also could have thrown 3 picks last night and the one he did throw was a killer. He also didn’t look like a world beater against either BSU or NIU. He is good, but maybe not as good as he looked in the first half. We had a lot of overpursuit that killed us when he took off running.

I think the bigger issue is that he is currently doing better than the player we pass him over for.
