I love conservatives:
Cal should HAVE to allow FREE SPEECH!!! And pay me to come talk, and pay security to keep me safe, and pay ME to talk, because this America and I’m allowed to make money!!!!
BUT, I want to cut taxes to the educational system because it is full of liberal blowhards who are trying to destroy this country and don’t want Jesus rammed down their throats!!!!
So, you get no money from me, but I want you to take care of ME, so I can rip on YOU.
Look, you want to talk at Cal, GREAT! Do it for free, hire your own security and DO IT.
No one would care less.

If nobody cared then he would have been allowed to speak would he not? This has been going on at campuses around the country. Look at Ben Shapiro trying to speak at DePaul University. Freedom of speech isn’t reserved just for speech you agree with. What those students did at Cal Berkley is disgusting. Allow the man to speak and if you dislike what he has to say then tell others why you dislike it. Make an argument why he is wrong. Just shutting him down immediately makes you look like a coward.
I really shouldn’t have added my 2 cents because I come to this board for news about Utah athletics rather than talking politics. Both of you have a good day.

Maybe I made some assumptions I should not have. Is he being paid by Cal to speak? Or is he doing this for free?
Is he requiring Cal, a school that is already stressed financially, to pay for his security? Or is he providing his own security?
NOW, I have not addressed what the kids have done. I have NOT given any sort of judgement into their actions.
All I have done is shone a light on the hypocrisy of the right. Do you not see the irony of the right wanting to limit money sent to Cal, then demand Cal pay to spread their propaganda?
Finally, calling people cowards…Be better than that. Let’s talk about some of the REAL issues here…not whether students who don’t want what he is selling and expecailly don’t want it if they are being charged for it…

From what I gather the universities that Milo is speaking at aren’t paying him a dime. A handful of GoFundMe’s from different campuses are set up to get Milo to travel to speak. $12,000 was raised to get him to speak at the University of Washington.
As for security, Cal told the Republican student group that they were on the hook for raising the funds to pay for the event’s security. An article I read stated that Cal estimated the students would have to come up with $10,000 to pay for police security. Not sure if that’s what the final cost ended up being, but in an interview Milo did last night he said an anonymous donor footed something $7,000 of the bill.
This whole thing has turned into a real s**t show.

I would love to talk about some the of real issues. You can’t do that though when you aren’t even allowed to speak because your viewpoint might be in direct conflict with another person’s. I will continue to call people that refuse to let anyone speak cowards and you should step up and do the same if you believe in free speech. If you can’t even have a conversation with someone with an opposing view and make arguments as to why he or she is wrong then you are a coward.

I agree with you trigg3r.
So if I don’t like what somebody is going to say, I should riot and scare them into not speaking? Book burning anyone? I am a big believer in the marketplace of ideas. Let people speak what they want to speak, if they are terrible and there ideas have no merit, nobody will show up or listen. I am fairly agnostic on the content of speech, but it does seem to me that there is a double standard with this stuff. If a bunch of right-wingers were rioting and burning books because of the content, would those that condone the Berkeley protesters also be in favor?
Yes, I get it, there is a real security risk and the public is not required to pay for that security so somebody can speak. That is not my issue. My issue is with the protesters. But I also think it is a shame that they can throw a fit and effectively silence somebody they disagree with.
