My son was pressured into signing up for a gym membership, thinking he could back out after thirty days and he found out the hard way he’s locked in to a long-term contract for almost 7x the monthly payment he was told.

Anyone had any experience with this? Is there anything that can be done to better the situation?

      TIA

Yes, similar experience at Golds Gym. Was signed up for daycare even though I didn’t even have kids. Managers and cooperate wouldn’t do anything. Finally had a family friend (lawyer) draft a letter saying we were suing them. They prompted replied with a letter saying they were sorry and refunded all my money and cancelled the contract.

Is it on a credit card? I guess you could dispute the charges and block them.

Exactly what recourse he has depends on the state but quite likely if the price is different than what he was told, was not able to cancel after intro low payment that they violated their contract and a lawyer can push the issue for your son citing appropriate state laws.  Some gyms are notorious for bait and switch tactics like that.
