Anyone know any more Info on the expansion? Also since we put a new video board in, how would put more seats in the SEZ?

I would expand the standard capacity by 8 to 10 thousand but build it in a way where they could add temporary seating or standing room for big games. How? I dunno. I’m no architect. 🙂

Whatever they decide to go with, another level with concessions and restrooms is a must. A 60-65k seat stadium would be perfect for this market.

I found the restroom situation much better than before. The concessions were horrible though. Wait in line 25 minutes to pay 10 bucks for a burger and fries that are literally inedible. I mean awful. I was starving but all I could manage was a couple small bites. I’d rather have one of those cheap burgers from AM/PM.

I am typically so stuffed with talegate food, I never use the stadium concessions. They are completely foreign to me and that includes the Cowboy Corndogs.

Take the capacity of BYU’s stadium, and add one extra seat just to p**s them off.

Welcome to Ute Hub @uteproud14 this is your first post, and a good discussion. There have been a few threads previously discussing this. Type in something into the search box and you can find a few more posts about expansion.

I have yet to visit the STADUIM. Stadium I have. Only use the restrooms under the SEZ or up in the skyboxes before the game then go to our seats.

Just a little heads up. Chris Hill has no intention whatsoever to expand Rice Eccles during his tenure. Don’t get fooled by the little tidbits he’s tossed out over the years, it flat out ISN’T happening. Any discussion on the stadium being expanded needs to start with, “When the next AD is hired….”

Source? Link? Or gut feel / hunch?

It IS going to happen. I would guess phase 1 will be announced in the next 3-4 years. The torch needs to move first. They are considering where. People all love to bag on Chris Hill on this subject but it isn’t entirely his decision. The University President, Board of Trustees / Regents, Stadium Director, Athletics Director, Facilities, major donors are all involved and have input.
The following was told to me directly by someone who would absolutely know. The SEZ building is crumbling and costing more to maintain than it’s worth. It needs to be rebuilt. The locker rooms and media rooms are bad. The design (which has been posted on the SLTrib through public records request) has changed since the scoreboard was installed, but they are still planning on completing the concourse around the south end with seats all the way up to it. All chairback I believe. There will be additional concessions on the inner circle and restrooms on the outer circle just like everywhere else in the stadium.
A Phase 2 would put additional seats above this concourse to either side on the video board. This is much farther down the road.
It’s a touchy subject and I get flamed with “Will never happen while Hill is here” when I post this info, but for anyone looking for some hope, there it is.

Oh, and no, the Video Board (the supports anyway) does not need to be moved to do this construction. IN FACT, those I-Beams it rests on were designed to be incorporated into the new concourse and support the second tier if/when that phase happens.

Mirror the north end zone configuration as much as feastible. No way would I like to see the asymetrical cyclops club house boxes on top of the south stands, hopefully the new scoreboard prevents this configuration. But of most importance, no more than say 53-55k max, it’s better to have dozens of consecutive sell outs than large swaths of empty seats every other game, plus, Ute football tickets are going to move way down the priority list when the economic bubble collapses.
